Greek Yearbook

I am a Gamma Phi at the University of South Carolina. Today was our Bid Day and we hired Greek Yearbook as our photographer.

We waited at our location for over an hour and they never showed up. Obviously this was very awkward for us.

Our President had a number for the photographer they assigned to us and tried to call, but when she did she discovered the number was no longer in service. We have since found out at least one other sorority on campus hired them and they did not show up there either.

My advice...DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!!

That's terrible, and awkard for you guys.

Hopefully plenty of girls had cameras. Maybe you can take some of them to a photo place and have them blown up as bid day photos for everyone?

Crescent 1 you may want to send an email to International GPhiB, while contracts are locally signed GPhiB does recommend them to many chapters and I'm sure IH would want to know of poor service or in this case NO SERVICE.

BTW- how did recruitment go????

I think tons of people on this site have given them negative reviews as being terrible for many years now. Yours is not the first complaint that I've heard!

I've had a bad experience with them as well - not the actual photographer (who was a very nice guy) but with their customer service. They've had me waiting all summer for our composite and they never return your calls but instead when you call back again they say "Oh, I was just about to call you."

I think the biggest problem is that they have a monopoly on the industry. They think they can get away with it because who else are we supposed to go to? Everyone else I've looked at has been way more expensive, and for a lot of smaller chapters you can't allot too much money to pictures. What's the cost of preserving your chapter history?

We get this every year.... We still don't have our Fall 08 composite yet.. we took the pictures back in early April. And they're hella hard to get a hold of. There's a rumor that my school's contract with them has expired... I sure hope so.

I had a horrible experience with them last year for our Convention photos...and I passed it up the line. Hope we don't use them again.

The other South Carolina school who were "contracted" with GY (and thus prohibited from hiring locally) wound up getting photos made by the local guys anyway, because one of their photographers was next door and realized they had been left high and dry. So that local company has earned the business.

Regarding GY contracts - be a bit cautious about assuming you can just hire someone else at will. GY typically has a auto-renewing contract that renews in the spring, well before bid day, when no one is thinking about September. The same is true for Composite work. I've been told that in our state, those contracts are perfectly legal and valid, which could be frustrating if we wanted to "buy local."

We just used them for our bid day and didn't have any problems. I'm not sure who we use for composites but I know those took FOREVER this year to get back. What a shame that they didn't show up and didn't have a working number!

Just found out through a very pissed off friend that GYB just posted a shot of the 2010 USC Alpha Chi Omega Bid Day group on their Facebook page. The only problem with this is that our 2010 Bid Day is tomorrow! Also it can't be accidently mislabled because last year they didn't show for Alpha Chi or our group. Amazing!

No problems this year....we called some other company and we did Bid Day photos for the first time in front of our house. As for rush we got 80 wonderful new members so we are very happy!

Not quite. IDK about Bid Day, but I know there are other choices for bid day. I know we used Fraternal Composites and had no real issue besides price.

First off let me say that Greek Yearbook does NOT have a monopoly on this business!! There are lots of local photographers that have been shooting bid days at campuses all over the country for years! The company that I currently work for is a photo lab that print's thousands of images for photographers all over the country, especially those that shoot bid days. If anyone would like they can send me a private message and I would be more than happy to see if one of our customers is in your area and could give you the right contact info to get in touch with them!
