New Relationship

I'm dating someone new. Great guy, very happy with him. A sister of mine set us up a bit over a week ago, and we clicked very fast. It's an LDR which is tough but so far, so good.

Valentine's Day is Saturday. We are spending the weekend in DC (he lives in Philly but is teaching a CPR class down in DC on Friday). I know he is planning something for V-Day.

I'm thinking about getting him a card. I feel like I should do more, but have no clue what because it's so early in our relationship. I don't want to do chocolates or something like that, because we are both watching what we eat. Any suggestions?

Maybe it's just me, but I'm thinking if you just met a little over a week ago, a card is sufficient.

But really, do you even send V Day things to people you just met a maybe 2 weeks ago?

Well we are in a relationship so it's different then someone I just went out on a date or two with.

I just feel if he is going to do more (he is cooking dinner, I'm sure there wil lbe flowers, etc) I should also?

I think a v-day card and a gift card of some sort will be sufficient. I, personally, would like something like that after a week. It's a nice gesture without being too mushy.

I was in a relation ship, we had a fight, we're rebuilding our friendship. I spent $1 at Walmart buying him a box of candy that had a train saying "Choo Choo Choose Me" because he likes The Simpsons.

The point of that? Keep it simple, low key, and funny! I mean if you really want to give him something, how about a small (no more than ten bucks) gift card to a place he likes to eat in a card. It is a gift, with thought (you know he loves Subway or Quiznos) but isn't overly sappy.

I was considering a small giftcard of some type, thanks for the ideas

If I had time to run to Target I'd check out the $1 bin, they always have some cute stuff!

Personally, I hate giving gift certificates to a significant other. The only time I did that was years ago for one of my boyfriends who wanted a new baseball-type hat. I didn't know his size, or which one he wanted, so it worked. But otherwise, I wouldn't get one.

An idea: Does he likes sports? My boyfriend likes the Steelers and Penguins, so whenever I'm out of ideas, I generally go in that direction.

For example, one gift I gave him for his birthday was a metal thermos with a Steelers emblem on it. He had lost his other thermos the week before, so it was practical, and pretty awesome. (I also got him other stuff, including tickets to a Penguins game, but we had been together for almost a year by that point).

One year, my friend and her bf decided they weren't going to spend a lot of money for V-day. He bought and made her a huge dinner and dessert. She bought him a 12-pack of beer and a bottle opener that played the Monday Night Football music. He couldn't have been happier.

Guys are actually pretty simple if you just think about what they like/need.

If it wasn't so fast, I'd give him an IOU for a pair of Yankee tickets (single game ones aren't on sale yet). But...I really don't know right now.

Yea, I wouldn't bring up tickets just yet. Go to the Yankees online store and look for something there.

Another option: You're spending the weekend in DC. Is there any place there that you think he'd like to go? I've been just about everywhere there. Last time I went, I visited the International Spy Museum and I loved it. I think the tickets are $18/person. And my absolute favorite place is the Air and Space Museum. There are so many things to do in DC. Search online and see if there's anywhere that interests you.

I really want to do the International Spy Museum...but our day for Friday is booked and I'm letting him plan Saturday. I think the deal for Sunday is going to be sleep in late and just relax before heading back to Philly for the night (we both have work on Monday, I'm taking an early train back home).

Thanks so much girls

Another weekend. I'm not even seeing one of my sorority sisters that is down in DC, as I'm getting in super late on Thursday, Friday we have plans and Sat is V-Day. I'm sure we will be down there again

Congrats on the new relationship, girlie! I am stoked for you. A card and a "coupon" for Yankees tickets would be good
