Strong engineering program.... weird looks for anything orange.... Yep, I guessed A&M.
But back to the discussion of your colors and symbols, keep in mind that your org will (hopefully) have a long relationship with the other GLOs on your campus. Since you have the luxury of establishing all your symbols now, I think you should definitely avoid anything that could cause conflict down the road. The colors aren't such a big deal. Many GLOS, including my own, share those colors. The compass with the fleur-de-lis is very strongly and distinctively associated with another GLO and needs to be rethought.
Best of luck!! I'm an engineer, too (mechanical) and love your recruitment strategy to leverage your mentoring role in the engineering department.

Anyways basically...
I turned in my Student Org Registration form today, and the office worker that keys in entries is out until the 11, and i am going home tomm. I can't wait till everything goes through! We have about 11 "actives" and about 3 girls [that have contacted me] that will go through rush in the fall, and thats without contacting the students i was mentoring! i'm so excited!

I just read this entire post and I am excited for you! I hope it works out!
To go back a bit, are you planning on, in the future, becoming a chapter of National Engineering Sorority? (sorry! I can't remember the word I am looking for! Basically your local is absorbed by the national!)

yes. we do plan on affiliating with a national.... eventually.
i'm back home for my 1 1/2 half week summer break. woo-hoo.
other than my family, i hate it here. i'll elaborate on that later.
i can't stop thinking of recruitment ideas, themes, parties, BLAH BLAH BLAH! any ideas??
it doesn't help that i'm known among my friends and family as this ball of constant engergy. i feel like if i'm not doing something constructive, i'm wasting time, and i hate wasting time. [unless it deals with homework.]
SOOO I got a C in linear algebra and Cal 3 and EngineeringEcon. Not the best and i am beating myself up for it, but i also partly blame my mentoring, since the deans kept changing up our roles, and they even changed everything we decided we would do. BOO!
but its still no excuse, esp. since last semester i earned PI! [3.14!!]
but i have to move on and look forward to my Fall classes. and the fact that after this semester i'll be done with my math classes with minor in hand.
now to design our badge! i actually have one designed i have to make a formal sketch of it...
Off to the drawing board i go.

AHHHHHHHH!
Ok, soooooooooo we meet the basic requirements for one engineering GLO to become a colony... should i stop the local process and start with the national? should i keep the local as is until we get somewhere [further] with the national? should i forget the national?
HELP.
[basic requirements as in memeber size and advisor, and everything else that can happen over the summer, obviously i can't call a meeting until everyone gets back...]

well until we get back, i can't officially decide what to do. but after talking with several of the members, most are more than happy to go national.
To make the process and decision offical, we have to vote on it.
i'm excited everything i think of the possibilities!

Proud to Announce
the sorority is registered with the school [something i've been trying to do for a while] Still waiting on holding a meeting to vote on going national. [Lots of voting going on on that day... Exec board... going national... recruitment stuff...]
So for now we areeeeeeeeeeee...............
Theta Chi Delta
lol i don't know why i did that it made me feel like i was revealing my house after rush.
our symbols are kind of up in the air for now. and the letters have meaning behind them [thanks to a greek lexicon, procrastination doing homework, and my Greek minor beau]
i'm so excited... everything is going smoothly... so far...
[knock on wood]

This is a wonderful example of a woman that did not have the best PNM experience and turned everything around her into an amazing outcome. Best of luck to you!

How exciting Jess! Let us know if you decide affiliate with a national. There are a lot of strong engineering/science sororities out there.
Congrats!
