Ohdollface's Rush Story (Spring '06)
Hello everyone!
I am a freshman at a small private college...Rush week has just begun! I just got back from my first meeting, and that is not all the girls have in store for us today! I have to meet up with my group again tonight and then go to rounds.
There are only four npc sororities on campus... I will nickname them using my favorite ice cream brands: Haagen Dazs, Ben & Jerry, Carvel, and Edy's
Haagen Dazs: There is a very small number of these girls on campus. They just recently came on my campus, and are still considered a colony.
Ben & Jerry: My friend is the treasurer and she has told me a lot about her sorority way before rush started. I adore her and can't wait to get to meet her sisters.
Carvel: I hardly ever see them wear letters around campus but I have heard that they are a chill group of girls... and half of them you would never expect to be in a sorority. So I am eager to meet them as well.
Edy's: They are the main reason why I decided to rush but now I am interested in the other sororities as well. I've met a good amount of the girls on campus and at a get together last semester.
The fun begins later this night... I looked at my schedule and I'm going to be so busy! Homework and studying is definitely a concern!

Mmm... Ice cream, I love them all! Good luck, have fun and just remember to keep an open mind, you'll never know where your fit may be. You probably heard this like 1005496 times already but it's so true!

Update!
Tonight was exhausting! I saw all four sororities and wow... My opinions have totally changed!
Haagen Dazs: They are really nice girls but we didn't click at all. They were very quiet and the conversations were forced. When there were intense conversations it would be between the sisters only.
Ben & Jerry: ...not like i expected. The girls were sooo nice, friendly and welcoming! I had intense conversations with the girls. They seem very active on campus (which is what I am looking for). I had an awesome time! and was disappointed when I had to leave.
Carvel: They're a hilarious group of girls. I can tell that they are extremely close but when I talked to them about activities and service projects they rambled a lot... and were very unclear. There were smooth conversations going but I didn't feel a connection
Edy's: I saw them first and was very nervous. Questions stumbled out of my mouth but after the ice breakers I was having casual silly conversations with the girls. I started to feel at home when it was time to leave oh well...
Tomorrow my group is spending time with Ben & Jerry and Carvel

I would keep in mind that if Haagen Dazs is still a colony, they would have NEVER done this before either and may be very nervous. I'd see if they loosen up some as the week goes on. It's possible that few, if any, of them ever participated in formal recruitment as a potential new member either.

Having been the new group and having rushed for the first time (while never being rushed), I totally agree with AGDee. Please keep an open mind about them. They maybe new and small but if you want to be apart of a group that needs you and wants you, then the colony may be the way to go. They will be doing things that no other chapter on campus will be doing over the next few years.
I am a total pro-colony supporter. So I'm a little biased.
Good Luck with this week.

I totally agree. I also was a colonizing member (and I never went through recruitment) so when we did rush for the first time, it was harder for some of us because we had never experienced recruitment from either side. Joining a new chapter gives you experiences and chances that you may not get with an established chapter.
Good luck

A lot of people say that you change your mind a lot during rush and they're right! Sunday night I loved Ben & Jerrys but now... I love Edy's. I have a feeling those two will be my top choices. I am honestly afraid to make Edy's my number one choice because I've realized that they're really popular (and of course an amazing group of girls); A lot of the rushees want to be in it. I guess I'm just afraid of getting disappointed.
