We do not have an A Xi D on campus, or a Theta Phi Alpha. The closest to the Blue scheme we come to is Tri-Delta and Kappa. and I did read tha Kappa Gamma thread and that was ridiculous. I'll talk to my VP [we are really close and even work together] and see what [is anything] we can do.
No takers on my advisor question?

Usually the university requires you to have a faculty member as an advisor-so they can sign out equipment, sign off for rooms, etc. As far as other advisors, you are coming up with your own rules, so there really isn't a procedure for you to follow. I know all of our advisors are recommended to be out of school for at least 3 years to be approved.

We don't have Kappa on my former campus, but we do have Tri-Delta. Often there is an issue with both orgs using blue and yellow at the same time - so AXiD tries to use double blue and Tri-Delta tries to stick with blue and gold. To be honest, there is a lot overlap with the color blue in general in the NPC- ADPi, Kappa, TriDelt, AXiD, DG (all of the top of my head) all have blue in some sort of combination. And when I hear fleur delis, I immediately think of Kappa (but I come from a long line of Kappas!)

Your faculty advisor should be ok regardless of any other greek affiliation. A faculty advisor is different from a chapter advisor. In my local organization we did not have a chapter advisor (largely because as a local it wasn't as necessary, nor did we have anyone really to fill the spot), and our faculty advisor for all but one year was a guy. He would sign off on docs for us, and sometimes host us in his house after initiation. But he didn't come to meetings, nor did he participate in ritual, so his greek affiliations and the fact that he was a guy didn't factor.

also on the A Xi D and TPA note : there are only 5 [maybe 6] AZD chapters and 1 TPA in my state...
Ironically if i did use an armadillo, it wouldn't be super strange [at least not where i am... which will be revealed when everything is finalized]
as for orange.... not happening... i like the color but..... be it the campus i am i would get dirty looks.... at the least.

I think I know which school you attend, but I'll keep mum.

Completely spouting off the top of my head, but since you're an engineering sorority, why not use the drawing compass rather than the directional compass? That would definitely set you apart and give you an opportunity to have really unique paraphernalia, etc. And I think of silver/chrome things when I think engineering, so maybe sub silver for one of your blues and then you can highlight that and another color that isn't too similar to one of the other orgs on campus like the other poster said? Again, just spouting...

I don't think anyone was suggesting seriously that you use an armadillo or orange. The point is that a bunch of orgs have blue & gold (just off the top of my head we can add SGRho from the NPHC to the list) - I don't think any org has a trademark on blue and gold. I mean quite frankly it's a good/popular color combination. I honestly don't see why it would be a problem for you to have them as you're obviously not ripping off any organization.

what might engineers use in a days work? civil engineers might use surveying equipment, chemical or bio-engineers might use test tubes, mechanical engineers might use drafting equipment-or what about tools that ancient engineers used? anyway jess, you would know much better than me what they would use, should you decide to seek another symbol.

i am sure that we already have a thread on this somewhere on gc, but maybe we could post our colors, symbols, etc. in this thread to help jess out:
zeta tau alpha: turquoise blue and steel gray
white violet
5 point crown
strawberries
pledge pin-carpenters square
open motto-"seek the noblest"

It's pretty obvious given the abundance of information scattered in all her posts. This is another good example of a PNM giving out waaaaaay too much information.

There is always the mechanical pencil and slide rule. I know that sounds ancient, but some engineers still use them... Ok, so my dad still uses them

Jess, again, honestly I think what you had originally was fine. You weren't copying any other org. We know that you aren't trying to copy another org. I don't see why you have to worry about it.
I also don't see why it matters at this point if people know what campus you're on. You certainly don't have to say it, but I don't see why it hurts things for people to know what campus it is if they connect the dots.

I agree.
People really need to lay off the "OMYGOD! THEY ARE COPYCATS!!" thing.
It is obvious that the OP is not trying to rip off another sorority. Now, if she revealed the orgs name to be like "Kappa Gamma" or whatever and copied philanthropy, etc, there will be overlap of some kind because there are only so many of everything to go around for the (probably) thousands of GLOs that are in existance.
Some color combos are more popular tan others, and it's very possible that they picked the same colors, but for different reasons. Same with mascots. Same with greek letters.
