The live-in requirement has been a point of tension for a long time. It didn't cause the collapse.

I mean if people were dropping out of school because of covid they could hardly fill or even have housing requirements which probably sent dues through the roof.

Smile small Greek national groups

Are there many small national fraternities and sororities? I am an alumnus of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity-a small, but strong national organization. Currently, there are 14 active chapters and 2 provisional chapters. Even though Phi Mu Delta is a small organization, most chapters are very active on their respective campuses. Not all chapters have chapter houses. What is the situation elsewhere?:

Since PMD is a member of the NIC, I stuck exclusively with fraternities that fall under that organization:

Alpha Delta Gamma - 12 active chapters
Delta Phi - 11 active chapters
Kappa Delta Phi - 10 active chapters
Phi Lambda Chi - 9 active chapters
Phi Sigma Phi - 8 active chapters
Sigma Phi - 7 active chapters
Tau Phi Sigma - 7 active chapters
Kappa Alpha Society - 5 active chapters
Tau Delta Phi - 5 active chapters

It really comes down to the school's rules. Like yes you have places like Bama with the huge chapter houses, but you also have schools where houses aren't permitted. Members would either dorm together or live in an informal off campus house.

Our UA chapter is also in the process of pausing, no confirmation yet if our request was approved. I was on the review committee for this chapter operations. I mentioned this a few responses above.

The letter says current members will be released and able to join other fraternities. Would those be initiated members or pledges/NMs/neophytes?

Hoping that it is a typo and that the writer of the letter meant to say "unitiated members" or "new members"; i.e., pledges.

Apologies LaneSig, I’m not as familiar with official correct terms for men’s orgs. I tried to do a google search and I listed the three that popped up the most often. So it wasn’t a typo on my part, just trying to learn. Did the letter mean that initiated members could also choose a new org?

Sorry, wasn't saying that you had made the typo. What I perceive to be the mistake is in the original letter from Delta Sig offices. I believe that their letter should have said "uninitiated members" or "new members". Delta Sig knows that their initiated members cannot join other organizations (as a standard rule).
