I just got back from a NYC-style photo shoot with a photographer/stylist (Keith Bailey) that's done Vogue, Cosmo, etc and one of the looks he put me in was a black lace & purple taffeta dress and black knee-high stilleto boots. I'll post a couple full lengths when I get them back. This has nothing to do with rush because the point was to be vampy, but boots + dress can work.

AlphaFrog: I love your example from your fashion shoot. You look lovely. But I venture a guess that if a pnm showed up in that outfit for Pref it would be the talk of the row.

As you know fashion shoots are different than real life. But yes, boots with dresses can been done successfully.

This is how we spot Californians up here in Seattle. The Natives do NOT put a "the" in front of 405, I-5, etc. It's funny, because I don't use "the" when referring to those freeways up here, but when I go down to L.A. or am referring to the freeways - the SAME freeways - in L.A., I suddenly say "the 405."

Southern Californians prefix with "the" we don't do that where I'm from, which is definitely Northern California.

It wouldn't work here, at the UofA. Just a very different style of dressing overall. Now I'm gonna be searching for the boots + dress look on campus.

Boy you are really driving me down memory lane! I'd completely forgotten about the absence of the article "the" when talking freeways.

So, I am confused: I'm going on 405? No...I'm going ON the 405. I'm taking the 101....On the other hand, I'm driving up PCH...It just makes sense, in a nonsensical way.

What can I say? We love the "the"

...that possibly explains the frequency it shows up in the nicknames for places around SC...The 9-0, The 2-9, The Lot, The Mansion, The Lab, The Spot, The Court, The Villas, (The Row....I guess instead of fraternity row?)...etc

then again, contrary to popular belief NO one says 'The O.C.'!
