My name is "borderline"
I just couldn't help posting a reply...
My name is Jareesa (like Teresa, but with a J). I'm from Detroit, and I thought my mom was just being ghetto fab, but actually, a white friend of hers came up with my name. People always say to me, Wow your name is so unique. Especially white people.
My boyfriend wants to name his first born son Messiah Jihad. I asked him, "you know that Jihad means holy war, right?" and he says, "yeah, I want it that way." WTH???
My group of friends have the following names:
Adia
Kameena
Senit
Maia (pronounced Mya)
Dejuan (boyfriend's name, pronounced like its spelled)
I would NEVER name my child something outrageous. You can't be a vice-president of marketing with the name Boomquisha. And what about 50 years from now, we gonna have all these grandmothers named Keesha. "Grandma Keesha" does not sound right, I'm sorry!
I actually want to name my daughter Anala, I think that's pretty tame. Any comments?

African Baby Names
I am doing some research for the book -- need more names and I want one of my families to have African based names. Anyway, I am learning a lot and thought I would pass it on to you.
First of all did you all know KEISHA is AFRICAN for favorite.
At any rate, here are the links for those who are interested:
African Baby Names
Egyptian Baby Names
Ethiopian
Ghanian
Nigerian
Swahili
Zimbabwean
The website lists names of a lot of ethnicities beyond African and American: Baby Name Network

If I am not mistaken, Zuleikea may have been derived from Zoleka, which means Serenity. I remember reading about these African quintuplets being born in 1966 (3 boys, 2 girls: Tandekile, Tendekile, Kululekile, Zoleka, and ???). Of the 5, Zoleka passed away in 1968.
Hope this helps

Zu names
I've also seen Zuleika. I think actors Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland, who aren't black, named their daughter that.
