In this thread, we list all of the chapters which have been closed down for Risk Management related issues in the 2009/2010 school year. I'll try to keep the top updated.
Some folks might object to this, but I think this will be a useful, if not sobering look at the cost of not paying close attention to risk management policies. Please post or PM charter revocations to me which occur between Jan 1st, 2009 (we'll have 3 semesters in this thread and 2 from here on out) through the close of the Spring '10 semester.
I make no guarantees that this information is complete (it's probably not since it's only based on what I've been told and been able to verify) or even correct.
Finally, I know Kappa Sigma is not NIC. I do not care. I'm grouping them where they fit.

Are you sure about Sigma Chi? I thought that was just a temporary thing based on their campus IFC?

You're right BC. I'll take that down. I was just trying to get some stuff up. Their charter hasn't been suspended, just their organizational status with the school.

ETA: My bad. They were suspended by the SOO, not JB. Which is odd. Normally, alcohol violations are examined by our Judical Board first. I'm not sure why they were suspended by the SOO first.

I believe a final decision is due this week. My understanding is that SOO took over because of the other issues the chapter was facing and thought it was too much for J-Board. Based on what is going on with J-Board, that sounds right.

Yep, should be interesting to see what is decided, considering J-Board seems to have been in violation of its bylaws for years. BH always needs something, I guess.

I'm afraid it'd look pretty cluttered if I did that, but I'll give it a shot. I'm sure about the ones which are up there right now, so I'm just going to leave those alone, but from here on out, good point. I'll do that.
My only concern will be that since these things are linking to a lot of campus publications and other sorts of sites that many of these links will be dead after awhile.
ETA: There wasn't much there, so I updated the links.

Hey Kevin:
For the list of closures due to risk management problems (hazing, etc., etc.) in 2009:
Delta Sigma Phi closed its chapter at Wittenberg in March 2009:
http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/ne...048.html?imw=Y
Excerpt:
Hazing incidents at Wittenberg University have resulted in the closing of a fraternity and sanctions levied against a sorority.
National representatives of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity closed the chapter on March 23 after it determined “serious hazing incidents that put our students at risk both mentally and physically,” said Sarah Kelly, Wittenberg’s vice president of student development and dean of students. The chapter has 23 members, eight of whom will graduate next month. It will remain closed until the fall of 2012, giving the chapter a chance to “recolonize” and gather a strong alumni, Kelly said.
The week prior, national representatives of the Chi Omega sorority joined the university in levying sanctions against its local chapter due to hazing.
The [Chi Omega] chapter was re-organized and will remain active, said Casey Stevens, Wittenberg’s director of Greek life. . . .

I'm not sure of the details, but on the radio this morning they mentioned something about the ATO house at IU. If I heard correctly, all but 20 of the members either had their membership revoked or they were put on alumni status.
A good friend of ours is an ATO from IU, but he has been alum for many years, so I doubt he would know more. Sad.

It might look less cluttered if you did something like this:
ZBT, Illinois, April, 2009 (Drugs)

Zeta Tau Alpha Headquarters has closed their Alpha chapter at Longwood University due to RMF violations.
The chapter had previously been suspended and reinstated earlier in the semester.
ETA: Edited links out (not working). The story in in Longwood's online paper, therotundaonline.com.
