There's no way you can compare a masterpiece like Taxi Driver to some pictures in Vanity Fair, myspace, whatever. It's apples and oranges.
Same with Pretty Baby, although I don't think Brooke's mom was as stable as Jodie's so who knows what went down on that set. I have to believe that Susan Sarandon would have kicked the ass of any skeezy dude who tried to mess w/ lil' Brooke though.
These are films that have held up and that have stellar performances. I seriously doubt if anyone is going to even remember Miley Cyrus and her teenybopper pop and silly show 3 years from now, let alone 30 years from now.
Her parents & manager wanted to try and get a more grownup image for her, people saw the pics and freaked out, and now they're backpedalling, IMO.

33girl...back in the day...Jodie Foster's appearance in that caused a bit of an uproar (as well as the subsequent gun scene) and didn't kill her career....this is what I am saying here...people getting bent out of shape over her pics.....geez...get a life...it's not like she is going to be the next Brittany Spears....
and for the one or 2 years that hannah Montana was a kid sensation...i don't think too many will likely forget that...if anything as her career goes forward...that would be her foundation.

Not the same thing. Foster and Shields were playing child prostitutes. Not playing on the sexual appeal of a child or putting themselves in truly suggestive positions.
But was Miley Cyrus was playing a role? Was she playing an informed role with parental guidance versus Vanity Fair taking advantage of a clueless 15 year old?
Lemme know.

Who knows what she's going to be and that's not the point.
Foster's appearance caused a stir back then but not for the exact same reason that Miley Cyrus' photos are causing a stir. It didn't kill Foster's career and it probably won't end Cyrus' career. I also don't care about Cyrus' career, there's a general point to be made.

If she takes a page out of Raven's book, she'll be 40 years old still doing Hannah Montana.

Cosign to that too.

More accurately, she'll have a longlasting career doing whatever she does without having to reduce herself to SEX.

Yeah, but her fan demographics won't change, which means less money in the long run.

There will always be 6-14 yr olds in the world to enjoy Hannah Montana... even if her current fan base grows out of it, a fresh crop are well on their way to being in that age group... if there are always kids that age, there will be parents to buy them all the HM stuff

I get what you're saying. She can have a long lasting career without sex. The only reason that Raven has had a career without sex is because she is still catering to the tweens. And personally, she should have jumped that ship a long time ago. Now I admire Hillary Duff for leaving LM when she did.

Yes.
And she can be 15 (famous or not famous) and not monopolize on SEX.

You're tilting here for no real reason.
In fact, I'll go so far as to say that your opinion actually agrees with the main point: sexualizing adolescents (especially girls) has been a part of culture (and legitimate art) for centuries, and this example is just another silly data point. You're agreeing with this premise implicitly in this post - which I think is good, because I think it's borderline self-evident, and it should give a lot more context to why this should not be the shit circus it has become.
I can't believe this is even causing an issue, to be honest. Maybe girls will imitate and do something stupid, but that's always been a challenge and always will be - why is your 15 year old reading Vanity Fair?
The media scrutiny will do as much harm as anything, in my mind.

I like Raven. I see her moving on to Lifetime movies or something once she can no longer at ALL possibly believably play her TV character anymore.
