sorry for not explaining. I believe our nationals chose to keep "fraternity" because the founding date of phi mu was earlier than the word sorority was created. so, they kept with the real founding date and not the name change. =)

I see what you're saying, but I think the missing logic comes from saying that "nationals chose to keep 'fraternity.'" Before the name change, wasn't it the Philomathean Society? That being the case, wouldn't it be that, given its founding date, Phi Mu chose to call itself a fraternity rather than to "keep" fraternity?

The only "sorority" is Gamma Phi Beta, correct?

REcently D Phi E has noticed that the service fraternity is becoming more like a coed social organization, and they have done some advertising on UTube....using some of our sisterhood pictures and such. It's very interesting and funny to me, but not really in a good way.

I was surprised to learn a couple months ago that there is a Kappa Delta (local) fraternity at Pomona College. I worked with a girl who goes to Pomona over my winter break, and she noticed me wearing my letters one day, so she told me about them. Apparently they were founded before Kappa Delta Sorority, and they still exist today.

Yeah, but the internet wasn't very popular back then. Dial-up was slow, too.

ZBXi derived from ZBT
Replying to an earlier post, The ZBXi frat in Geneseo was originally founded as ZBT, but after just a few years, the fraternity decided that it need not have a religious focus, and should not be restricted in any way socially, so Zeta Beta Xi was formed.
Since then, ZBXi has consistently been one of the biggest and most admired fraternities in Geneseo.

There is not a NPC group named Zeta Beta Zeta.
There is not a NPHC group named Zeta Beta Zeta.
There is not a NIC group named Zeta Beta Zeta.
As for local groups, I couldn't say.
eta - never having watched "Greek", I didn't realize this was already a "fictional sorority". I'll bet someone has already appropriated the letters for a local! (Wonder if the production company thought to trademark it?)

At the current time I believe Alpha Sigma Kappa - Women in Technical Studies is the only ASK. However, over time it has become apparent to me that there were at least 2 other ASK's prior to our founding in 1989. I think they were both honor societies. There may have been more, but I have not been able to find anything about them. (Have seen pins on ebay from these other groups as well.)
