Find an article, brouchure, whatever that proves what you're saying. If it's so well known - it must be documented on the web either. No pointing to one college *somewhere*- it'd better be talking about the entire greek population.

With all of the talk of grade inflation that is going around, I'm surprised that you would see declining grades. Especially since at the school I went to, and quite a few other schools that i know of, the all greek gpa is quite higher than the all campus gpa. that doesn't sound like declining grades to me.

Well said, and right on target.

I was clearly talking about factors other than racial diversity in my post. That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish. But we've had this discussion on GC before -- "diversity" does not simply apply to race, although it has come to be used as such by some people.

I have never seen a chapter of more than 50 girls that was not "diverse" in terms of personality. I HAVE seen chapters smaller than that that I would consider "not diverse" in terms of personality. (However, of course, I have seen many smaller chapters which are diverse as well.) The numbers game just works in their favor. It's not hard, even at small schools, to find 20 girls with similar personalities and backgrounds. It's a lot harder to find 150.

To judge whether or not a chapter is "diverse" based on composite pictures is ridiculous. You could have a chapter full of girls who look identical and could still have totally different upbringings.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous that people from smaller chapters feel the need to come in here and make veiled attacks on larger chapters. I liked being from a medium-large chapter. I'm sure many of you liked being in smaller chapters. I'm sure many of my sisters at Ole Miss like being in a HUGE chapter. If you liked your small chapters so much, why do you need to get so defensive about larger chapters and accuse them of being "not diverse" simply because 3/4ths of them are blonde? I've found that the chapter size people seem to like most is the one that their chapter was. If being in a 200-person chapter was so horrible, don't you think that people IN 200-people chapters would dislike it? Yet most of them seem to like it. While there are down sides to being in a large chapter (may not know all of your sisters as well), there are also the up sides that (more people to hang out with, more people to share responsibilities).

As I said- prove up!
My school is consistently higher, all of the grades that i've seen on the web are higher.
My HQ certainly does keep track of grades, and they prove exactly the opposite of what you've said.

"Get back in traction"???? What the hell does that mean?

From the Gamma Sigma Alpha (which sounds sort of like Order of Omega) site at USC. Data is from 2002:
http://www.gammasigmaalpha.org/spring_2002_results.htm

Clarkson University
3.7% above the Non-Greek GPA
(2.9905 vs. 2.8831)

Brenau University
5.6 % above the Non-Greek GPA
(3.23 vs. 3.06)

Mt. Union College
6% above the Non-Greek GPA
(3.233 vs. 3.049)

Loyola Marymount University
2.61% above the Non-Greek GPA
(3.15 vs. 3.07)

Those are just the first 4 listed. There are about 25-30 more schools listed on that page, and those are only schools with Gamma Sigma Alpha chapters.

duh...cont'd

I really don't give a rat's whether you believe it or not. And you
can take Harvard or Yale where few grades below a B are given,
and that might buttress your claims.
Congrats on the campi which have GLO grades above the A.M.A.
I was addressing NIC groups only, and really aim at men's groups.
If grades are indeed improving, perhaps we will get drinking
scholars instead of binge drinkers. I'd be pleased if we had
less attrition in the pledge classes, as a goodly amount of
that seems grade-oriented (undocumented, of course)
Another item for challenge...larger houses generally have better
grades. 'course you do not get to be a large house without a
few goodies, grade-wise. This, again, is focusing on NIC men's
groups only.
Gosh, my Sigma Delta Pi chapter had over a 3.7 g.p.a. and we
had a coupla dozen members....'course you had to have a 3.5
to get in.
The rest I don't know....gosh, thanks, Dani....

rest my case

compare the average g.p.a.'s today with those of the 50s and
60s. A house or campus with 3.0 was virtually unheard of.
The Betas at KU came close one year among 27 fraternities and
a campus of about 8,000.
In visiting over a hundred campuses...in the late 50s...I checked
the grades in all of them. There was not ONE who had a gpa
of over 2.6. Based on a 4.0 system.
Well, then, is it that today's kids are that much more smarter?
Could it be that the professors give higher grades today? You
know they ARE threatened with position eliminations with a drop
in enrollments...think about that. We have tried to be all things
to all people, lowered our standards on admission, recruited like
the devil to keep rolling, keep the $ funding or increase it, never
decrease. Double secret probation exists only amongst greeks.
Naw, while I think each generation, or at least wish, will be much
more informed and successful...it is perhaps a fact that grades in
themselves are not-so-good a predictor in the final analysis.
And, bear in mind, that supervisor or boss you will have to tow the line with...may not be as smart as you.
Having prepared budgets, recruited and been an academic dean
myself, these are solely my observations. People, you likely know
that most newspapers will not print any of these things, and for
sure faculty will not address it and neither will the administrators.
Just get us a winning team....
The Greek experience transends all of this and is but one reason
some of us old coots hang on in spite of the assailing...
