33girl, are you speaking from an experience of being rejected from Junior League, or just repeating what you have heard? If you are just repeating what you have heard, then you are just perpetuating Junior League Tent Talk.
Chill folks -- I used Junior League as an example, as I noted, of a group and opportunity to bond with and form friendships with women beyond college. I'm not suggesting that everyone rush out to locate sponsors. Though I doubt that Junior Leagues everywhere are as snobby as reputed to be or as depicted in movies ( sound familiar?) -- but I can only respond from my own experience.

Duh. I'm still in school. That doesn't mean that I don't have many generations of Junior League members on both sides of my family and haven't experienced their process and programs and the fallout of not becoming a member in several different cities in the US. Because remember, I'm an entitled brat who thinks she is better than everyone.

I've met with a counselor this morning (sorry for running off!) and I hope that this will signal the beginning of something new.
To answer the question upthread about why Greek and not another organization:
I wanted to socialize, and grow with others who were in the same stage in life (full-time school) at the same time, engage in community service, be an example to others, and would be able to make connections with others across the country and the World after college who also shared the same bond, history, rituals and traditions.
Those were my reasons for wanting to be part of a sorority that had a Collegiate presence. Others may have their own reasons.

I've heard of the same happening when a girl transfers from one campus to another and tries to affiliate with her GLO.
I guess it depends on the GLO.

Oh yes, I'm sure they all came over on the Mayflower and ran aground on Old Row.

Glad to hear that -- we are always on the doorstep of something new if we choose to be.
All the best to you.

I am interested in the idea that you need to be part of an exclusive group to make close friends. I understand the idea of group female friendship, how having a big circle can be different and produce a dynamic that doesn't come from one-on-one friendships, but at their core, all friendships are one-on-one. Find people with common interests, and make friends. Viola!

I agree -- a circle of members drawn together on some common ground presents opportunities for friendship and shared experiences, but in the end, the friendships and bonds must be developed by individuals.
To say otherwise would negate what we tell PNMs about blooming in the chapter where they find themselves planted.

No one ever said it didn't, but you are trying to claim JL isn't competitive and exclusive (at least in some chapters.)

No, I never made any such claim. I never claimed anything outside of my personal experience.
Did you?
Are there disappointed forum members here who have been turned away from JL?
misscherrypie received an invite from JL. I'm sure there are others.
ETA: Yep, in fact there is even a thread entitled " AOIIs and The Junior League."
I think you may be perpetuating negative stereotypes about an organization with which you have no experience.
Sound familiar? It kinda jumps up and down on my irony button.

If a ZTA disclosed anything about membership selection, she shouldn't have.
