Like I.A.S.K., it would depend if I knew either or both of the people involved. As a general rule of thumb, I won't break up a fight between people I don't know UNLESS it looks very serious or if one person is being "jumped". In these cases, I try to get some sort of assistance so I won't get hurt as well.
If I know one or both of the people and the fight is physical, I feel it's my duty to break up the fight. I think that when people resort to fighting, they've stopped thinking rationally and the only method they can conjure up to relieve their pain is through physically harming someone or something. Before I knew the power of prayer and meditation, I used to get so frustrated that I would have to throw something at the wall to calm myself down.
