But, I doubt your wife got on the internets talking about how much the ring you got her set you back. It's only someone's business when you advertise it, y'know? I have a hard time sympathizing with the little girls who come on here demanding a 2 carat diamond princess-cut solitaire in a platinum setting when they're not even engaged.
The long and short of this whole deal is, if you're concerned with how much a ring costs and how much someone should spend on it, then you're definitely not mature enough to get married.

Although I guess you could say that a wedding is a one-day thing, and she'll have her engagment ring the rest of her life. (Or, if she doesn't beat the odds - until the divorce is final.)

I'm not one of those girls that's been planning her wedding since she was five. But I DO know (and I've told my parents this) that having an awesome time with my sisters and friends at the reception/party is more important to me than how many flowers I have in the church or whatnot. And as far as I'm concerenced...I mean, I would like to have a nice sized engagement ring, but my mom's is a fairly small solitaire and she's never upgraded (they easily could if they wanted) and I think it's gorgeous because it's so simple. I would rather my fiancee and I spend that money on a reception/party and a good honeymoon. The ring can be upgraded...and the important part is getting married, not flashing the rock. That's just a luxury, and not everyone gets that luxury...and that's ok.

I knwo a Sigma Pi gentlemen that just spent 6 thous, on his girlfriends ring, He is a Sr. and they had been dating for about a year! That is a bit unfathumable to me but if it can be done great for them. I personally would like an extreamily cheap ring cus i honestily have a habbit of lousing things and that would be bad.

Taekwondo theme would be awesome. Especially at the reception...
Much to my mom's dismay, I find themed weddings insanely more interesting than traditional ones...I mean really, every time I've sat through one I've been bored until the party part. I think a themed wedding and an open bar would be extremely entertaining.

When I get engaged you are SO invited
Diamond Darling...I had this great white trash idea that my reception could be at Burger King and all the guests get $5 to order what they want. That way everyone is happy. And we'd serve the strawberry cheesecake pie things as wedding cake. There's a heaping pile of class right there.

I've noticed that (decent) rings go from 1500-3000 average. But, it depends on the cut, style, setting and area. My ring total was around 1500 but that was WAY cheaper for the ring I got because he made it himself. (built a kiln, melted gold, made setting, etc) Mine is a .76 princess cut diamond set in 6 pennyweights of white gold. (The average solitare setting is 1-2 pw's)
