I'm hoping all goes well and she receives invitations to both groups for pref. Does she still have her legacy group left?

There were quite a few in her group that were already dropped completely. Some of the girls still had full schedules. I told her she would be taking the opportunity to visit away from someone who really loves that house. And if they don't see her fitting in (apparently mutually) then they don't want to waste a pref invitation if they don't see her choosing them. She said that nothing was really bad about the visits, but that the conversation wasn't natural and didn't flow. A lot of the houses she had are known for super involved students and that isn't what DD2 did in HS or intends to do in college. She wants to be involved in sorority and school only. Maybe a club in her major but not til she gets settled in and sees how she fares with this load. Anyway, apparently she has a lot in common with DD1. She felt the same way and fretted about what if she doesn't get the one she wants. So she has turned in her pref list and is hoping she gets one pref invitation for tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
It's always so hard to get cut, even if she wouldn't have wanted any of those other houses. She's so lucky to have your very good advice and encouragement. DD2 is so clear on who she is and what she wants, which is terrific. I know that is going to serve her well (in life, not just recruitment!) Fingers crossed with you for tomorrow that she gets invited back to the house she wants. Thank you for letting us know how she is doing!

Yes, she has her legacy house and it is the one that she wants. Thank goodness for this website and all the advice it has given me so that I can pass it on to her. This is a fantastic resource for non-Greek parents!

If a chapter invites a PNM to pref and they are a legacy, most homes are required to extend a bid. They rarely cut a legacy at pref, so that is good news for your DD!

Fingers crossed! I'm really glad she likes her sister's sorority -- in house legacies can have it a little tougher because there can be an assumption on the part of other chapters that the legacy wants to be with her sister so they should "cut their losses." That can be tough when younger sister wants to join elsewhere, but I think that's less common. When I was an active, we had several sets of sisters, and the young chapter I advise has had 6 younger sisters join recently...they've never "lost" a younger sister to another group.

Hoping she got good news today!

Though I am sure there must have been worst times, I remember recruitment 2014 being like the worst week of my life. My daughter was very far from home and there was nothing I could do to help her. And as you said....it's an "ego buster" to get cut. Although often it's far more of a numbers game, it feels personal. I just remember she lived in a suite with 4 girls - all seemed like great girls to me. 2 of them didn't make it through at all. It's so competitive at Mizzou - way more so than I was expecting.

Great news!
She got her preference day invitations. There was only one and it was her legacy house. She was super excited. She was dropped by the other house but she really only preferenced them as she knows she should maximize her options. She has already gone to the party. She said the most awkward conversation was with her actual sister. lol. She said they got caught up on what has been happening this week. Her sister was glad she only had her house left since she had been so worried other houses might try to "steal" her. But she has really good friends in a lot of the houses and she thinks they probably dropped her out of respect for her. DD2 thinks it is a really good fit.
However, a lot of her friends feelings were hurt that they were dropped by DD1 house. In reality, I think the houses they currently have are actually the right fit. It may just take them awhile to figure it out. One has two houses, one she loves and the other not so much. They are contemplating SIP but DD2 is advising them not to. I had read here a few years back when DD1 was considering that. I am assuming it is accurate that at SIP will get you put to the bottom of the bid day list. Not sure if that is true for all, but the risk is so great if you really want your first choice. My DD1 maximized her options and got her first choice.

I am not sure this new deep early cuts thing is going to work out so well for the houses. Lots of girls were dropping after second round. Time will tell. I am anxious to get the numbers. The preference parties at some houses are really really small so I am worried great girls got left out along the way.

This is not accurate. Chapters have no way of knowing who has SIPed and who has not when they submit their lists for bid matching.

What a SIP will do is prevent a PNM from being a quota addition for any chapter which could prevent a PNM from receiving a bid from one of the chapters on her preference list.

A PNM should only SIP if she would absolutely refuse a bid from the other chapters she preffed - and frankly only if she would rather NOT be Greek at all than accept a bid from one of those chapters.

That is good to know. I'm not sure where I got that from as it's been two years. Hoping all her friends from high school end up I their perfect fit.

kcmom, Congratulations to DD2! She must be so happy, knowing she will be accepting a Bid tomorrow to her favorite house, which also happens to hold her sister. And DD1 must be really happy as well. If you're willing to share it would be fun to hear tomorrow which house is her new home!

Also I am glad DD2 is advising her friends to stay with the process. As you've mentioned before, each house knows best which girls will be the best fit in the long run. And they shouldn't take it personally that their friend's sister's house didn't invite them back. There is only so much any one girl can do to influence whether a PNM is invited back (or not). It is likely simply a factor of other people that were a slightly better fit, thus higher on the list. It certainly doesn't mean people didn't like her friends.

So, we're dying to know: did she make it? Which house?
