Of course what's done is done and I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed for rush week and hope my GPA is high enough (it WILL be a 3.0 by the time I rush) and I'll continue to raise it throughout college again so I can accomplish my dream of being a vet.

It's strange though, I was talking to one of my friends at UF and she was able to get a bid with a 2.8. If she can get a bid with a 2.8 at an SEC school, then I'm sure my school won't make such harsh grade cuts during rush week.
I'm sorry such bad things happened to you. I think you should work on your grades and getting back at school and worry about sorority life later if you are still interested.

Comparing people and schools and GPAs is not productive. Every single situation is different. You won't know until you try but make sure you can take it emotionally if things don't end up how you hope.

I dont think anyone would recognize me and if they did, I'm not embarrassed. I had a really hard time and I've come out stronger by it, and I'm in a much better place.

I just am really confused though why people keep telling me to not compare other schools and how it's different in every situation...but how come then people can tell me my chances look bad and my GPA is too low and things like that?

If you are not going to trust what we're telling you, then why did you come here and ask?

To the bold: You are being given a 'more than likely' answer.

Yes, every school is different and every situation is different, but since you've stated your specific school and situation, there are those who can give you a 'rough estimate' of your chances at your school with your situation.

The likelihood of a PNM with stellar grades, activities, recs, good conversation skills, and pleasant looks will have a better chance at at successful recruitment than a PNM who may be lacking in one or all of these.

Think of it like a sliding scale. For those with more 'pluses' will have a better chance at getting a bid than those who are more towards the negative end.

sigmadiva put it very well. I don't want to tell you that you won't get a bid. You very may will, but with your GPA and age, it may not be to the chapter you want. Recruitment is tough. When your résumé is not picture perfect, that sliding scale tends to leave you with choices you didn't think you'd have...but they are still choices. Some women in your position are completely released. We don't know you, so we can't tell you that wouldn't happen. It's unlikely since the vast majority of all women WITH AN OPEN MIND are placed during recruitment. The women who are closed minded drop out before the end of the process. That's their own decision. Go into recruitment with a completely open mind, and chances are you will end up with a bid...maybe not where you think, but a bid.

Because right now your GPA is really low for a successful recruitment. You keep basing better chances on some kind of mythical GPA you think you'll have by fall. You might not make those grades. Those better grade transcripts might not make it to the sororities or be counted in time for recruitment. Anyone writing a rec for you is writing it on actual facts not what you say your grades will be by recruitment, and your recs and probably your recruitment registration will need to be in before you achieve that target GPA. There are a lot of big variables

Most of all it's because you are asking things that are membership selection. How a chapter cuts off GPAs and what kinds of leeway they have and such is private information. People are trying to be gentle with you and let you know your odds may not be so awesome without talking about specifics. Because we can't and frankly we don't know for sure because we are not members of those chapters.

I regret that you are disappointed with the advice you have received here. We can't tell you your chances of getting a bid because each sorority has different criteria, and membership selection practices are private. What we CAN tell you, however, are the common ways that people can be excluded from membership. Year in school, GPA, and community reputation are factors that CAN cause someone to be cut. Those who make it in as upperclassmen or with lower GPAs are not the rule; they are the exception. To minimize the risk of disappointment, we advise you or any PNM to be prepared to be the rule and not the exception. If you want to go in believing you are the exception, that's fine. You've made that choice in light of the information provided to you.

I strongly suggest you adopt a new screen name if you continue to plan posting. GSU sorority members may frequent this board or someone might tip them off to this thread. Plenty of PNMs have ruined their chances based on revealing too many specifics on Greek Chat. You've told us your school, your GPA, your major, your special circumstances, that you're not open to every sorority at your school; and you also keep arguing with people trying to tell you that we can't tell you your chances of getting in, only that we can advise you on what may keep you out. You've provided extremely personal information about yourself that make it possible for sororities at your school to identify you. If they read this thread, they will see that you've already mentally cut one of them out of the equation, which could lead them to think they are that chapter or that you are being pretentious, possibly leading you to be cut if they figure out who you are. That has certainly happened as a result of Greek Chat in the past, and we advise all PNMs to be discreet and not reveal specifics to protect themselves. Read through some of the advice threads in the Recruitment Forum.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I hope that you get the bid to the sorority that you want.
