We met a Golden tonight named Reba. There's a good Southern name.

One of my ADPi friends teaches agility, and always seems to have two Samoyeds. The first two were Japanese names (one was Kiku), and the latest are Icy and Crystal. Crystal's breeder's last name was (seriously, folks) Chandler - two letters away from Crystal Chandelier!

My next door neighbor has a half great dane half bull mastiff ( the dog is HUGE and isn't even 2 years old yet) and his name is Bentley. He's a big dog but a sweetheart.
My boyfriend has a bassett and his name is Rollie Uga Marshall (rollie from 101 dalmations, uga for UGA, and Marshall because that's his 2nd favorite college football team) long name doesn't flow well but definitely fits the dog.
As for me, I have my sweet little Cocoa Puffs ( i call her coco for short) She's a weiner dog and i love her to death. She's definitely my baby.
As for southern names, like somebody said before any double names would work. Something really cute that my best friend's dad did is he got 2 new dogs (a rottweiler and a pincher ... they're super sweet and loveable.... unless they don't know you lol) and he named them Toma and Hawk ... put it together and it's Tomahawk. He's a big Braves fan been one since they were in Milwaukee.

I adopted my dog on Friday, I ended up getting a pointer/shephard/boxer mix that's about 1 1/2-2 years old.. and named her Scarlette! She's ADORABLE and really well behaved so far, and thanksfully she ignores the cat (who is terrified, poor thing.)
Thanks everybody for your ideas!

Did you adopt from a shelter? If I didn't have so many dog allergies, I would definitely try to rescue a dog from a shelter...
Welcome to Scarlette!

Hopefully that will change and they will become good friends. If it doesn't, pm me for suggestions (I used to breed & show cats while I also had 2 dogs). Everybody got along (except for one really mean cat I got from a friend). Cute name! Obviously all those suggestions helped.

Meet "Bailey" (crap, number 5 on the most favorite name list.)
This is his adoption picture, we're picking him up tomorrow from his foster family! We're getting him from Cocker Rescue of Georgia (also where we got our other cocker spaniel that died last July from throat cancer.)
We've had a REALLY hard time picking out a name for him that all of us could agree on. Last week, on a cruise, the waiter passed by w/ a tray of Bailey's Irish Cremes and Grand Marniers. I just happened to be telling my husband that I had read you could get ideas of dog names from color, personality, street or town where you named him, etc. My husband immediately said, "Bailey-after the drink. Because the first thing you said when you saw him was you were surprised at his coloring, it was like creme, not a light buff color." We all agreed we liked the name, and ordered two Bailey's to toast to the fact that he is now officially named. And now I find out, after reading this thread that-poo, we're just common people!!!
Oh, well-Bailey he shall be, with a nice Southern nickname of Baybay (Sidda's nickname from Ya-Ya Sisterhood.)
And, oh, yes, I do have a daughter with a double Southern name.

I like when I hear pet names that are different, but are everyday things that you hear all the time.
One of my sisters named her dog... Guinness
My aunt's dog was named after a place she visited... Sitka (Alaska)
And my favorite... one of my friends worked at a doggy day care place, and one of the dogs was named... Fenway
(this COULD be my favorite because I like the Red Sox, but that's beside the point. it's cute!)
