Excellent site! I try to work on somebody's else's genealogy (almost) as often as my own, as I'd like to get my certification someday, and I need the challenges.
One thing that absolutely fascinates me is the Thomas Jefferson/Sally Hemings connection. I'd read a lot of articles about the discussion about "who's allowed to join whatever the Thomas Jefferson society is called and who's not. I don't remember the exact quote, but at the first meeting where Hemings descendants were welcomed, the president of the society made sure that he went over to two of the ladies to make them feel at home. He then said something like, "I really hope the society opens their minds and accepts you," to which the ladies said, "Oh, no! We know we have the lineage. We're here to see if this is a society to which we WANT to belong!" Beautiful.
OragamiTulip, maybe there's a Descendants of the Accusers of Salem Witches?
And yes, much of my holiday presents come from Caldwell, too.

Any time you want to work professionally, honeychile, let me know. I keep threatening my husband with hiring someone to find my proofs . . .

I too would like to get my certification someday (as opposed to being certified!). My problem is that I am not able to get down to Madison all that often and there isn't much around here. I would LOVE to make it out to New England on a research trip one of these years.

The trouble is, getting your certification can leave you certifiable! In all seriousness, a friend of my mother's was on a ticking clock for finding that last proof to connect the dots - and my mother suggested a source. Bingo - her friend was able to get her certification! Ten years later, though, she did pass away from complications of Alzheimers...
A friend of mine who I don't very often recently told me that she was interested in learning how. I offered to help her out, and it's been as interesting for me as it has been for her! Now, to write a beginner's book...!

Keeping it real, with the original "old school" book cover...
I quite enjoyed the "Daughters of Eve" book by Lois Duncan back in the day, but I'm not in any "Daughters" organization.

That's scary looking - is it a membership selection meeting of a frightening kinda sorority? Why are they ripping up that lovely head shot?

I remember this book from jhs! Like many of Lois Duncan's books, the plot is dark and somewhat disturbing. You should be able to find it in the Younfg Adult section of the library.

It's been years since I read the book, but it's basically a "high school sorority" that runs awry and turns psycho / militant-feminist'y.

Could join DAR/UDC. Came from a lively Yankee/Rebel household. All women prior to my generation in family were in one or the other. I think at times my mother thinks my sister and I had to be switched at birth, we aren't carrying on traditions.

The only org I qualify for is Daughters of the Unwashed Central European Immigrants to the Midwest. But that's okay because I don't really get the point of those groups. Aren't they just another kind of sorority with more exclusive criteria?
I really care more about a person does with her life than what her ancestors did with theirs. I mean, didn't we just do a chorus and two verses in the Greek Life forum on not considering mothers/wives to be "famous Greeks" just because of who they married/raised? This seems similar to me.
Feel free to set me straight and defend your groups, members.
