If you like the Bravery, you'll probably like The Faint. If you like Franz Ferdinand, you'll probably like The Futureheads. If you like Keane, you're probably a woman. If you like punk rock, the new album by the Thermals is absolutely tremendous. If you like Muse, try TV on the Radio - this is not a difficult game. Also, I don't think any of these bands fall under the category of "rock" per se. . .

If you want to rock, pay the $10 and get "Boys and Girls In America" by the Hold Steady. Tell me that's not the best rock album in years . . .

I realize that I'm kind of the resident semi-hipster music douche. That's fine - but it's simply awful to decry 'the state of music' like it's really any lower than any other time. In fact, fuck it - download these five tracks, and tell me 'modern music' sucks:

-Califone, "The Orchids"
-Monsieur Leroc, "Cooley McCoolsen"
-Man Man, "Van Helsing Boombox"
-Killer Mike, "That's Life"
-Junior Boys, "In the Morning"

Those five tracks couldn't be more different, there's literally a song from every style but country (and I have some Bright Eyes tracks for you if that's your shit). Seriously - download, enjoy, and stop.

I never said "fuck the radio" but I'll never stop. Most music today sucks all ass.

by the way, here are some more to check out:

The Secret Machines
Clap Your Hands Say YEAH!
Theivery Corporation
The Strokes (if you haven't yet)
Tapes n' Tapes are good but haven't listened [actively] that much, they were just background music for a party i was at

Thanks for the tips, and I guess for not being a dick.

Canadian Rock..well...ROCKS!!

There are alot of bands coming out from the north, and I never get to hear good music until I go back home..or Detroit (listen to 88.9X which plays alot of good rock music).

Right now, I've been playing the hell out of The Sam Roberts Band (Chemical City CD) and Our Lady Peace (Healthy in Paranoid Times). New Bands: Never Ending White Lights, City and Colour, Mobile, etc etc. *sigh* Two more months...

ROA, I love The Strokes. My little sister just gave me their CD.

KRC, I'll take your word for it and download..err...buy those songs :-)

All I listen to is 89x and WRIF. I hate HATE Ludacris... I"ll listen to a few of his older songs, but all he sings about are girls and whores and smacking and shaking that ass. I want songs with depth and meaning. I know I'm in the minority by saying that I hate Outkast too. I don't think they're funny and their songs got way over played. Fergie? Wannabe Gwen. Nelly Furtado is a huge sellout but I'm starting to love her songs. Which is where I get into the whole, it's not the artist, it's the songs.

Except Panic At the Disco. I liked their songs, till I saw them on the MTV Video awards. What a bunch of tools. Why do all those Emo bands dress like that? They look stupid.
