OMG!!! I used to love Bovanti! When i was in undergrad, one of my girls worked at the cart/stand in the mall and hooked me up every day! I assume you're in NC, so try going to the Belk's in Crabtree Valley. They have a nice sized M.A.C. counter with the best staff.

I am a MAC junkie too but the counter and now even the MAC store are a bit too crowded sometimes so if you are already familiar with the colors you can go to www.maccosmetics.com they have the full line available to purchase and it got to my house/dorm relatively quickly.

Sephora Stores ( www.sephora.com ) also have a great variety of cosmetics at fairly reasonable prices depending on the brand. Even their store brand is pretty good.

If you like lipglass stila's lipglaze is good a little more expensive ($24) Anna Sui Lip Gel is also good ($13)
but to me the best (next to lipglass) is Christian Dior Diorific Plastic Shine Lip Gloss

thats all i have to share for now

It seems like everyone in this forum uses M.A.C. Does anyone use Clinque? I use it and I think it works well on women of a darker complection. How do you all feel about Clinque?

Thank you, thank you so very much. Ever since this topic started I've been trying to find the website for MAC products. I rarely get a chance to go to the mall to purchase makeup. Now I can do it on the computer! I'm so happy. Thanks again.

Actually I wear clinique, but there colors are starting to be so bland with me now. I just really bought their lipstick, eyeliner and one shade of eyeshadow, but I'm sick of that. So I really needed help in finding something else for women of color, with a great variety.

The exchange is 6 empty containers= 1 lipstick. I recently traded in my containers and got a tube of Carnal. It's a very pretty color and w/ the Lipglass it's even prettier.

I don't wear foundation, but I do wear their presssed powder and I LOVE OH Baby. I never leave home w/o it.

Yep, she is correct. MAC is at Macy's at Lenox, on the far right side-- kinda in a corner nook. Same floor as Mick's! I believe that's the 2nd floor :0)

I either go to the MAC counter in Parisian's @ Phipp's or Rich's in Cumberland Mall.

My mother and grandmother stay faithful to Clinique, which was the first major makeup/skin brand I used. I really tried their makeup, from foundation to lipstick, but I think that because my mother and grandmother are a lighter shade than I am, their colors work with their skin color. Also, Clinque didn't have enough "daring" colors.

However, I had a love/hate relationship with their skin care line. Now, I only use their eye makeup remover dramatic moisturizer and their facial makeup remover (for foundation).

Has anyone ever tried MAC's skincare line??

I've tried a few products in the skincare line.
The wipes work well removing make-up. The scrub mask is a really good exfoliant and did good removing blackheads. Radically Clear is also good for clearing up unexpected pimples

There is also a MAC store in Perimeter Mall, near the Macy's entrance. They will walk you through all the product lines, do a make over, then happily take all of your money!! LOL Word of warning though, the make up artists at MAC are typically a bit....errrrr....different in their look. Don't let it fool you. They can be conventional as well. I'm VERY conservative and it's not a problem for me.

BTW, someone asked about lipsticks for darker women. I wear desire and it is a nice netural color.

Lancome

Greetings Everyone,

I recently switched over from a drug store brand of make-up to Lancome and I was just thinking that it wasn't the line for me. When I decided I was ready to invest in some good make-up, I first went to a MAC counter in a mall in Maryland. I was treated horribly! The make-up artist hesitated to touch my skin, (I'm a woman of color) and she told me that since I had no previous experience with their line, I would have to set up a consultation on a Tuesday morning, which I thought was a little strange to say the least. She then literally told me that "There are a lot of make-up lines in the drug store that you can go and purchase because Mac is a little on the expensive side". Needless to say, I became pissed off, and instead of calling her exactly what she was, I wrote a letter to the general manager of the department store. So, my experiences with MAC have been very limited, and although I said I wasn't going to try it because of the way that ignorant woman treated me, I may change my mind at a later date. I have extremely sensitive skin, so I'm always searching for cleansers and masks as well. I wear Lancome now primarily, and since my light brown complexion has a few light spots, I have to use a lighter foundation and a slightly darker powder. It gives me a clean, tanned look. But, I think I'm going to try Prescriptives now! Also, does anyone know of any African American owned Spas in the Maryland/ Washington DC area??? My birthday is coming up, and I've been dying to experience the whole pamper treatment thing!

As far as black owned/operated spas in the area
Dominique's Day Spa- Largo
Special Care Skin Care and Wellness Day Spa-Silver Spring
European Beaute Concepts-Mitchellville
Santosha Spa & Salon-Kensington
Paris Alexander's Day Spa & Wellness Center- DC

hope these help

I hope to try MAC someday, but I'm on a tight budget right now. But I've been very impressed when I've walked by their counter to view some of the makeovers they've done. Has anybody tried the Victoria's Secret line?
Naw, but for real, I do have a quaestion. I also use Black Opal Foundation (in Hazelnut). What's weird though is that I was that shade in the Summer but now my skin is slightly lighter, which means that the foundation does not amtch my skintone (Like, you can tell it's darker than my neck and chest). I HATE this!!

Does anyone know which brands will actually match my skintone (or at least has the most variety of colors for Afr. Am women), and also will not make me break out (b/c I waer makeup every day)???
