I'll have to ask my chapter to take pictures next month. Our suite has 22' tall arched ceilings, and they used to cover the one room's ceiling with clear & white balloons, with streamers. Incredible!

Just decorations. I have an idea of what happens from the various recruitment stories over the years.

I'm at my desk cracking up. I have a friend that's a violist and now that phrase is all I'm going to hear in my head when he talks about it...

I rushed nearly 30 years ago and our parties were in this ballpark of formal. We didn't have tables like that, nowhere to put them, but everything was draped and lit. Oooh lala. And the chocolate fountain! Had to have the chocolate fountain. But being a VERY old chapter, we also had a super fancy crystal punch bowl and those little cups from about 1940 that made it seem VERY historical. But the biggest thing was the BAM! serious. Everything through rush was light, friendly, funny and then the whiplash to sweet and tearful. I think that's part of why preference freaks girls out so much and can so completely change their mind about a chapter.

Our pref was more like a very formal garden party. Picture a great rectangular lawn outlined by a red brick path with Greek statues at the four corners. AOIIs in red dresses (albeit the dresses were ugly as sin and made out of chintz pillow material) standing in rows on either side of the green. Each rushee was led in individually by the president and presented to the chapter then led to her place in line by a sister. I don't recall what we ate or drank, but the home was beautiful and the garden included a fountain in the shape of an AOII badge. It was stunning.

So... Was it the violin that did it?

It sure didn't hurt! I'm very musical and it was lovely sounding, so I definitely enjoyed it. Any group with violin-playing bishes is a good one in my book.

This has nothing to do with this thread, but I first read your icon as ADPEye of the Tiger.

Bump since it's that time of the year and as a tiny Greek system girl, I love to see the over the top pref setups!

Agh, I forgot about this thread until now! We're in the midst of recruitment now so I'm keeping my mouth shut for the time being but come Bid Day I will post an update. I will share, though, that there are no violin-playing bishes in our preference ceremony this year:P

While we don't know if those are all actually "real" pref photos, the general feel of those photos is about right.

Got it, we must have gotten different feeds from the search...90% of mine had greek letters wrapped in lights. Those weren't at my wedding.

Here are some "real" photos of preference set ups/details:
