Yeah, I did, so far, have a preference for KKG and Chi Omega. They both appeared to have nice girls. So yes, i did have a preference but I wasnt itching to get in either.

I think it's normal when you go into recruitment as a sophomore or junior to have preferences, or chapters that intrigue you one way or another. Perhaps something about the sorority resonates with you, or you like their colors or mascot, or you know (or have seen) girls from the chapter walking around campus, and they appeal to you. Maybe you like the look of their house, or you've heard good things about them.
While it's normal to have these preferences, they probably won't impact your recruitment all that much. You will form impressions of the chapters as you go through the rounds, and they will likewise be forming impressions of you. Your preferred chapters may end up high on your list, or not. Likewise you may end up on their invite lists, or not. It is best to be prepared for some disappointments along the way. It is also common to change your mind (often for the better) about a chapter as you continue the process.
Your best chances for a successful recruitment come if you realize that the chapter that is the best fit for you may be one of which you have little or no knowledge at present. That's why you'll keep hearing the excellent advice, "keep an open mind." You don't want to get so emotionally attached to your favorites that you miss the hidden gems along the way.

Maybe it's just my read on this thread, but since the "incorrect advice" sticky it seems like there have been a whole lot of inappropriate questions asked!

And I also love how in the links you provided me, the same members were total assholes to the girl who started the thread on IU recruitment. It seems bitchiness is a trend here. What a great attitude you girls have. You tried to turn this negativity on me but really just showed your true colors by your repeated behavior and unkindness to others on here.

Thank you for pointing that out because I was not planning on bringing that up. Don't believe me you can also check out greekrank, its not a pretty picture at all. They are ranked the worst right now. I was hoping to hear otherwise from you girls but so far it looks like you are holding up the the reputation of being bitches. yeah, ouch.

You said you have friends in Kappa. Why do you need to ask us about them?

If it's the thread I think it is, her tone (and word choice) came across as overly self important and GCers responded accordingly.

If you continue to spread vicious rumors about my sisters, you will learn what bitchiness is. Because this? Please. My sisters have been nothing but polite. If you have problems with others, FINE. Take it up with them privately and leave my sisterhood out of it.
You were politely informed as to what you should do, and you chose to take this thread where it has gone. I can guarantee that the attitude you've taken will leave you bidless at IU. Therefore, I urge you to take a step back, stop posting, and listen to the advice you were given.

It appears that the members on here are waiting for the chance to pounce on someone. I had interests in certain sororities. SO WHAT?! Didn't you all? yes.
GET OVER IT! Either offer adivce or leave it alone. Don't drag things out otherwise. Its just wasting my time as well as yours. No one forced you to write a response. There is way too much self importance and angst on here. And I am ridiculous trying to justify myself to a bunch of angry, underfed, over tanned, self-important sorority girls.
Take out your anger on issues that matter and stop wasting it on trying to harrass newbies. I am not broken up by this and it isn't going to affect me. I will keep on living my blessed life.

IU Sophomore Link
Another IU Sophomore Link
And honestly? I went into recruitment with an open mind. I had heard things but knew that I didn't know the whole story. Rumors are rumors. If you believe them, you miss out on the truth.
And really, I'm not tan or underfed but whatever. It's also not about you being "harassed". Stop playing the victim.
Good luck with your blessed life. If you still would like to go Greek, hopefully the links I listed will deflate your ego a bit.

As a happy, adequately fed, biologically tanned, already important non-sorority girl:

An Answer to Your Question...

IU317, I will offer you some honest advice. You must understand that when you come onto a website that attempts to promote panhellenic spirit, it is discouraging for any of the sorority women on here to hear disparaging remarks made about their sorority (even if you didn't personally say it and you found it on Greekrank, Juicy Campus, etc.). I know you were asking for information regarding Kappa Kappa Gamma.
I am a graduate of Penn State (and NOT IU) but, I will say one thing: Kappa Kappa Gamma, as well as all of the other NPC sororities on your campus, are incredible. You came on here asking about KKG and the women on here are trying to tell you not to get your heart set on just one or two sororities. They are really trying to caution you.
Normally, I would answer your question in an abrasive manner because I hate more than anything when people sit around and "rank" or put sororities into "tiers" because I personally believe all the NPCs offer something wonderful for a college experience.
Please keep in mind that all sororities (NPC, specifically-since I am only a member of an NPC sorority) have great philanthropies (which is another term for community service). IU is very competitive in regards to recruitment. So not to step on anyone's toes, I will say (once again) that I graduated from Penn State so I only really know about the competitive nature of IU based on talking to sisters from the IU chapter and reading things on Greek Chat. From what I understand (as has also been stressed in this thread) going into recruitment as anything other than a Freshman may be a little more of a hurdle for you. Because you are not going in as a Freshman (and I would say this even if you were a freshman) you should take into consideration EVERY sorority at IU because you should maximize your options.
Joining a sorority was one of the best things I have ever done. I wish you luck and hope it works out. Go in with an open mind and stay positive.
