Kappa Kappa Gamma at Indiana University.

I go to IU and I was going to rush my freshman year but rush was so close to my final exams that I decided to wait until sophomore year. I have had my eye on KKG for many reasons and I wanted to know if anybody had any experiences or encounters with KKG. Any advice? Are letters of reccomendation a must? ( I have two KKG friends at another school). How were the girls? Any tid bits at all will be really appreciated.

I am not looking at them for the elitism or prestige etc nor am I rushing because my friends are in it. I am not asking how I should act or dress, I simply am curious about the kappa ways. I understand my opinion will likely change when I rush but for now, they are one of my interests. Thanks!

Oh my...sigh

I suggest you first do some reading on GC. There is a wealth of general info about some of the questions you ask. However, you will also find out that no one will give you information about a specific group on a specific campus.

Our goal is to promote Greek life, not a specific group. General questions about IU recruitment - yes. Specific questions about KKG - no

As a KKG and an active participant in my Panhellenic community at my university, I can tell you a few things. First, KKG is different at every school. Second, just because your friends are KKG doesn't mean you should/have to be KKG. Third, you need to ask questions about IU, not IU KKG or KKG in general.

No one should be your goal. That puts a bias in your mind before you start recruitment. If you go to the parties and decide you love ABC or XYZ, for all means, go for it, but don't go for a chapter just because your friends are.

Besides, if you have to ask us about what they're looking for, you're not being yourself. If you're not being yourself, you're not allowing yourself the opportunity to find your true home.

I really encourage you to keep an open mind, because IU has a great Greek life and anyone should feel excited to be a part of any chapter there. Good luck in recruitment when it happens. Be yourself. Go where your heart thinks you belong, not where you know your friends (from other schools) belong.

Sorry for the rant, but as a KKG, it's not fair to us if you try and manipulate your way in by acting like someone other than yourself. More so, it's not fair to the other chapters there that you aren't giving a chance completely.

Also, it is very possible that you could go into recruitment aiming to join Kappa and they could cut you.

IU has a VERY strong Greek community and you should keep an open mind to all chapters.

Quite a bit has been written on GC about IU and recruitment, so I would suggest doing some reading about the system and what you're in for. Good luck!

I really appreciate the help! I think everyone misunderstood my questions. I am not asking for advice on how to act and I do understand I may not like kappa or they may cut me. I am just wanting to know more about them than what I have gathered from campus. And I am not interested in kkg merely because my friends are, I have plenty of other friends from different sororities. I am very confident in myself and would not alter my image to fit a sorority. Thanks!

If you want to know about the "Kappa ways," which I assume you mean traditions and such, ask your friends who ARE Kappas.

If you're at IU and want to know more specifically about that chapter, I'll take a page from our NPHC GCers' playbook and say that if you can't find it on the website or learn it from being friends with members of that chapter or observing the members on campus...it's not anything you need to know.

LOLzzzz... one of the WORST possible universities to go into recruitment only wanting one chapter

IU317 04-23-2010 11:13 PM

I don't want only one chapter. I am just interested in it.
