I go to IU and I was going to rush my freshman year but rush was so close to my final exams that I decided to wait until sophomore year. I have had my eye on KKG for many reasons and I wanted to know if anybody had any experiences or encounters with KKG. Any advice? Are letters of reccomendation a must? ( I have two KKG friends at another school). What do they look for? Any clothing/ fashion advice? How were the girls? Any tid bits at all will be really appreciated.
I am not looking at them for the elitism or prestige etc. I understand my opinion will likely change when I rush but for now, they are my goal. Thanks!

As a KKG and an active participant in my Panhellenic community at my university, I can tell you a few things. First, KKG is different at every school. Second, just because your friends are KKG doesn't mean you should/have to be KKG. Third, you need to ask questions about IU, not IU KKG or KKG in general.
No one should be your goal. That puts a bias in your mind before you start recruitment. If you go to the parties and decide you love ABC or XYZ, for all means, go for it, but don't go for a chapter just because your friends are.
Besides, if you have to ask us about what they're looking for, you're not being yourself. If you're not being yourself, you're not allowing yourself the opportunity to find your true home.
I really encourage you to keep an open mind, because IU has a great Greek life and anyone should feel excited to be a part of any chapter there. Good luck in recruitment when it happens. Be yourself. Go where your heart thinks you belong, not where you know your friends (from other schools) belong.
Sorry for the rant, but as a KKG, it's not fair to us if you try and manipulate your way in by acting like someone other than yourself. More so, it's not fair to the other chapters there that you aren't giving a chance completely.
