I would imagine that it would cause a pledge class to bond more and it would cause the kids who aren't serious about committing themself to an organization to drop out. If things such as DDs and house cleanings are considered hazing then there is an obvious point to that.

I'm assuming Designated Driver. I know some chapters make their pledges be the DD (or Sober Sister, in many cases). They're too young to drink anyway.
