ok so i made a mistake... madison wasnt as creepy as i made them sound. they were just realy pressuring me. i thought the girls were nice i think that they just recruited too hard. i liked them and actually might put them on my bid card.
so i went to the student union with mari and another girl whom i had met throughout the week to get our pref invites. mari got 3 invites (emily emma and isabella). the other girl really wanted madison or isabella and just got emily and emma. Needless to say i really wanted isabella. actually i only wanted isabella. i just couldnt see myself anywhere else. so i got my invites and it turned out that i got all 4. yay(sarcastic). i told the rho chi's that i only wanted to go to isabella. they told me that although that was an option, they REALLY REALLY wanted me to go to 3 parties. so i closed my eyes and picked emma. it was totally at random.
so pref night i was to go to:
first Maidson
then Emily
followed by Isabella
none of the sororities on my campus have houses so they were all at random locations throughout town
I got to Madison's place, it was held in an old fraternity house. they had white sheets thrown over all of the couches. they had one of their seiors "preffing" me. another one had written me a little note because she had wanted to pref me but the older girl got me instead. their ceremony was nice. alot of girls cried, both pnm's and actives. i felt more connected to them than creeped out by them this night. i was really starting to like them.
then i went to emily. theirs was at an unofficial house. it was really pretty, painted in their colors. their ceremony was nice. it was basically the same impression i had gotten from them all week, they were nice, their house was nice, it was all just nice.
Isabella was last. i couldnt wait. they had theirs at an really nice hotel (although it was in the breakfast room) their ceremony made me cry. the girl that i had been talking to all week "preffed" me, she teared up too.
i had a decision to make. do i put madison and isabella or just isabella???

Madison would have scared me. (Did it sound like hotboxing to anyone else?)
I'm looking forward to see where you ended up!

I had never heard of the term "hotboxing" until GC. It was never a rule at my campus that X number of sisters may not talk to a PNM at the same time, but just common sense that if you have more than 3 sisters talking to a PNM at a time, it will make her uncomfortable. I find it hard to believe that a chapter would think that having 8 sisters talking to a PNM at once would be to their advantage.
When I watched the YouTube video from Northwestern, the Rho Gamma defined hotboxing as two or more sisters talking to a PNM at once. How can you transition if you can't have two sisters talking to a PNM at once? Does an active just say to the PNM, "See that redhead across the room? Go talk to her, we can't hotbox you and bring her over here"?

As I understood it, 2:1 was okay, just no more than 2 sisters to 1 PNM. And generally, the 2nd sister would come into the conversation, there would be some sort of transition, and the first one would leave. It was never 2:1 for longer than a minute.

Agreed on the ratio. I've known what hotboxing was since I was a freshman because I guess it was something my Rho Chi told us about and our Rush/Recruitment Chair always drilled into our heads every year of school. I guess when you get fined for it once, you never want to get fined for it again. On my campus, the facility director counts as a member of your chapter.
And VandyDG, it does sound like Madison was hotboxing to me.

ok, I'm going to skip ahead to bid day.
The night before i had only slept on and off, i called my mom about every two hours throughout the night. i woke up for good at about 630 that morning, with much protest from my roommate (it was a saturday). i showered and took my time getting ready. i wore a sweatshirt like the rho chi's told me to so i could cover up my bid day shirt. i went to the student union at about 815 ish. i was among the first ones there. i was shaking and crying because i might have made a mistake on my bid card. they werent going to be ready for about 15 more minutes so i sat and talked with ashley. her sister was there because she was an alum of one of the sororites. then we were told that we could wait in line to get our bids. i was the first one in to get my bid. i was still shaking. they handed me my bid and i opened it, and ...
