This past year actually there have been a few girls that joined who where very shy and the sorority has actually helped them with that. So, you should be upfront about your condition but say you're hoping the sorority will help you overcome and help you with it to show you are willing to try and change. That being said though, if that is the only reason you are not asked to join then this sorority isn't for you. A true sister would be understanding of those kinds of things and even though they should take you out of our comfort zone slightly to help you grow as a person, they should not mentally harm you by forcing you to do something you physically can not do.

NPC and NPHC recruit in different ways and look for different things in people.

I am going to reply as if this is a legit post (don't know why, but I am skeptical.)
Your first concern should be getting accepted into your org of choice. (BTW, many of us no longer of "probate" shows.)
A lot of SAD is biological as is clinical depression and other such illnesses (inheredited brain chemistry). Your doc may need to sunscribe different meds until you find the right one.
But you also need to know that a "probate" show will not be the only social gathering in which you will participate as a member of a BGLO. There will be national conventions and regional conferences involving thousands of people. Not to mention community service projects, chapter meetings, public fundraisers, etc. (Okay this is why I am skeptical--the OP only focused on the "probate" show.)

I can relate to your anxiety issues, but you don't really have to worry about the probate show, because that is a very SMALL part of what you will do in an NPHC org for your LIFETIME. I'm not a very 'show offey' person either, but there are SO many other aspects to my org that it really doesn't hinder my membership. Believe me, it seems like a big deal, but in the big picture of things, it's not. Remember also, unless you're the only person online, you're not there by yourself either.
And I'm LMAO @ some of these responses!
And oh yeah, the suggestion of joining other orgs was a good one, as well as thinking about membership once you graduate college, where you won't be put so much on the spotlight in that manner (but you will have spotlight moments, though).

OP, PM me if you need any advice or help. I really feel for your position. I know how hard it is.
You people should be ashamed for discouraging her.

Not saying NPCer can not post in this thread, but she clearly named the thread with NPHC in mind. I have a good feeling that you may know less about NPHC than I (an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman) or any of the rest of us for that matter.....maybe ut us just a hunch .

Please listen to 1908Rev, MeiMeiCat, because she is speaking the truth.
At that site, they will verbally run you over just like a freight train.
The only difference is that a freight train doesn't back up and finish the job. *lol*
