Why would you think they are the largest? From various posts I've read on the D9 boards I'm under the impression that chapters at Howard, and other HBCUs, are HUGE.

Beginning of the fifth paragraph. I probably should amend my statement to say that they are likely the largest fraternity, as evidenced by the above article. There may very well be women's groups that size or bigger.

I'm Internal Vice President of the Colony at Howard. We're doing fine internally, but the main problems we're having are from the school administration. We're still aiming for a Spring 2007 chartering goal, but we must first get official campus recognition. Even though we completed all the paperwork and turned it in (TWICE!) since March 2006, they are still dragging their feet on this issue, presumably because they don't want us here, for obvious reasons.
Our size has been reduced because we had a large number of members (about half) graduate in May of this year, but we have a dedicated core group that is working on making our chartering goal a reality. We have a few more new members who should be pinned at the end of the month, and we will be sending a contingent (myself included) to the Leadership Summit in Philadelphia next month.
We're still looking for any kind of support we can get from neighboring chapters, who have been of great help so far.

Thanks for the update, HU_Pike. While I'm not a Howard alumna (or a Pike, obviously), you guys have my support. I wish you all the best!
