I have a couple more formal letters that I would-

I have a purple, longsleeved knit-kind of shirt that has rhinestone letters...

I also have a baby-blue fleece type long sleeve shirt that has small letters that I would wear....but then again, I usually don't got to a very formal church.

When I was an undergraduate we routinely wore blazers with our coat of arms patch on the pocket and our badges on shirts when we went to Mass. In hot weather we wore our badges on button down oxford shirts unless we had letters embroidered over the pocket. A lot of times we would wear badge on shirt and letters on wind breaker. The other houses generally followed the same practice. Sometimes we would wear intramural jerseys with letters over khakis. All of these seemed appropriate and the campus chaplain encouraged us to "show the flag".

Ive worn my pin to church but I have also worn my letters on a jacket. A big thing here is a pull over wind breaker and on them are letters. I am always cold so I leave my jacket on cause I freeze in church so sometimes I would have my letters on cause Id wear that jacket.

When I was in college I would wear my badge to church on Sunday morning and t-shirts and jeans on Sunday nights or Wednesdays. Sunday night and Wednesday were very casual. All my friends and other people around me knew I was in a sororoity, so why hide it?

I wear my badge to church. If I had a lavalier I'd wear that. I think t-shirts, etc with letters are fine to wear to informal church events.

Badges, lavaliers and rings are acceptable, but shirts are not, even if your church is very casual. I attend a hippie church near the U of T campus, and I see many, many people who are what I call "inapprpriately dressed" for service (meaning that they wear things that one would wear to work on casual Friday).

No.

Because I wouldn't go to church.

I'm not a church person really but was told that we should not wear our letters to any religious-related event. Right after I crossed a bunch of us got reamed out by our Prez because we went to a funeral and it was a very cold spring day and stood outdoors with our jackets on over our formal clothing. She told us that because this was a sad time we should not be wearing anything that reminds the family of social, fun activities, or bring any kind of attention to ourselves.

I'd wear my badge or my lavalier to a church service, that's it.

Now, if I'm chaperoning the senior high on a beach trip or something, sure I'll wear my letters, or when I go to choir practice even. I've found out members of my church were in sororities in college because of wearing a t-shirt with different organization's letters on them (Panhellenic recruitment shirt) or my lavalier.

Oh good Lord! My family would expect my sisters to show up in their badges. They know how much AXO means to me, and I would rather be remembered for the good times

I wear my badge to church. Letters are way too informal for service, but I would wear them to something social or dress-down.

My mom still hasn't gotten over the fact that I "ruined" her church - she goes to a small hick church of about 50 -- I wear pants to church, and did to hers. After all the gasping and whispers, she reported back that several women have begun wearing pants much to her (and others) dismay. What can I say - I'm just a trend setting kind of gal hahaha!

My chapter attends church together once a year. We wear letters and pins- whatever is appropriate in the worship service.

Would I wear letters on a regular Sunday? Not really. Once in a blue, I may take a bag if I need to carry some extra things to service. If I were doing something during the service that represented Zeta, then I would.

Myself and another soror sing in the same group. We wear T-Shirts and hats and whatnot to REHEARSALS only. When we are ministering? No way. It's not appropriate.

Plus, you must remember-not every church accepts fraternities and sororities. You just have to use wisdom. If you are not familiar with the congregation, I would err on the side of leaving your letters at home. Better to be safe than embarrased and called out.

In the same way I hang my cross around my neck and wear t-shirts from retreats I have led or been on around school and anywhere else--unashamed, or speak with my brothers and friends about my faith or religion or theology in general, as well as my own personal views--unashamed....

I would go to Mass, and have, with something displaying my letters or organization name--unashamed.

It is who I am. It is who you are!

Now only if the question were a bit more specific...if the question were either:

1) "Would you wear your lettered sweatshirt to church, seeing as it is somewhat formal attire?"

OR

2) "Would you be ashamed or proud to display your Greek letters in church, thus revealing your involvement in Greek life?"

ya know what I mean?

Either way, I will respond to both variants of the question...

1) I don't believe I would wear my lettered-sweatshirt in Church just because I just don't like wearing sweatshirts to Mass--I'd probably get hot and end up wanting to take it off anyway... Now, I have gone to Mass in the past displaying my letters in two ways: first, when wearing formal attire, I have proudly worn my badge before (and my pin when I was pledging).

2) To answer the second form of the question, the other way I have displayed my letters, spelled out, is this way: my parish has a "Life Teen" program, which I guess you could say "hosts" the Sunday evening--"Life Teen"--Masses. Being that the attendees are all high school and college age, with a few parents in the 'crowd', and that we are in LA (SoCal, woot woot)! the service is not as "formal" as traditional Masses. More upbeat music is played and the sermon relates more to people of our age group and finally, the attire is very laid-back and informal. The point is, I have worn t-shirts deisplaying "Pi Kappa Alpha" on them, and have no problem doing it.
Not only is there NOTHING WRONG with being a person of faith in your religion, I'm proud to be both an active Christian and at the same time, a PIKE!...or just Greek for that matter.

Thirdly, I have also worn my letters in "sweater-form" on retreats and such, being that we're in the mountains and it's quite chilly...and those retreats involved religious activities and reflections. As a leader on retreats I have also referred to my fraternity (and how it has helped me) in my talks and group discussions. No problem...

Anyway, I almost wrote a Dickens-like novelette on the matter, but whatever...I am in no way ashamed to be a member of my Fraternity.

I think it's interesting to note that some churches are opposed to greeks, yet many org's founders were Christians! Or Jews, in some cases.

Just a thought.
