Can any of you Texans help me?
I need the most horrendously tacky "Don't Mess with Texas" paraphenalia that I can find for one of my co-workers. I'll be in San Antonio for a few days, so I'll have a chance to pick it up.

Only in Texas.

It's also done as part of the opening ritual of every Texas Masonic lodge meeting as well.

If my ol' Kentucky home were anywhere else, i'd be blessed were it in Texas. I lived in El Paso for a spurt. I didn't much care for it, but College Station (Rob E Keen, L Lovett,) Lubbock (Pat Green,) or Austin (limits,) seem like three great places to end up startin' off. If just for the music. It's just so damn far from Kentucky and Nashville, though.

All I know is that there's NY and there's the rest of the world. Where does Texas fit into the picture?

Not from where I'm standing... to Texans, it's only Texas and then the rest of the world!
You don't see too many people in the big cities wearing 10-gallon hats, but there's plenty of Texas sports cars (read: pickups) driving around. I do own a cowboy hat, but I rarely wear it.

God Blessed Texas
I've seen a lot of places
I've been around the world
I've seen some pretty faces
Been with some beautiful girls
But after all I've witnessed one thing still amazes me
Just like a miracle you have to see to believe
'Cause God blessed Texas with His own hand
Brought down angels from the promised land
Gave 'em a place where they could dance
If you wanna see heaven brother here's your chance
I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas!
First He lit sunshine
Then He made the waters deep
Then He gave us moonlight
For all the world to see
Well everybody knows that the Lord works in mysterious ways
He took a rest then on the very next day
God blessed Texas with His own hand
Brought down angels from the promised land
Gave 'em a place where they could dance
If you wanna see heaven brother here's your chance
I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas!
God blessed Texas with His own hand
Brought down angels from the promised land
Gave 'em a place where they could dance
If you wanna see heaven brother here's your chance
Well I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas!
Well I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas!
Well I've been sent to spread the message
Mmm...God blessed Texas!

Maybe the legislators were concerned that people werent proud enough of Texas.

That's weird.. I remember it being a requirement to have a Texas flag (along w/ the US flag) and we *always* had to do that when I was in grade school.
I don't remember doing that in high school though

I know, it does seem unusual. We always had a Texas flag in each classroom in the school district that I was educated in. However, it was the most recent meeting of the Texas Legis. that actually made it a law (if someone wants to research it and post it, great. I however have a life to get back to.) It was a big hullabaloo on Sept 01 when many schools started that that woudl have to say the Texas pledge. I was at a wedding this weekend and was making fun of the teachers asking them if they had it memorized yet.
