Texas, Our Texas

http://www.texastrue.com/images/texa...20barnwood.jpg

"Texas, Our Texas"

Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.
(chorus)

Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
(chorus)

Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.

Chorus

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

Texas Pledge of Allegiance

"Honor the Texas flag. I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible."

You ask me what I like about Texas
I tell you it's the wide open spaces!
It's everything between the Sabine and the Rio Grande.
It's the Llano Estacado,
It's the Brazos and the Colorado;
Spirit of the people down here who share this land!

It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand
It's a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play some songs by your favorite Austin Texas band!

You ask me what I like about Texas
It's the big timber roundneck Nacadoches
It's driving El Camino Real into San Antone
It's the Riverwalk and Mi Tierra
Dancing to the Cotton-eyed Joe
It's stories of the Menger Hotel and the Alamo!
(You remember the Alamo!)

It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!
It's a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play some songs by your favorite Austin Texas band!

Hey, you ask me what I like about Texas
It's Blue Bonnet and Indian paint brushes
Swimming in the sacred waters of Barton Springs
It's body surfing at Freo
It's Saturday night in Del Rio!
Driving across the border for some cultural exchange!

It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!
It's a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play some songs by your favorite Austin Texas band!

It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!
It's a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play some songs by your favorite Austin Texas band!

Yee-Hoo! That's what I like about Texas! Yehaw!

queequek,

to most Texans that is the "unofficial" state song.

One of my personal faves.

There's a yellow rose of Texas
That I am going to see
No other soldier knows her
No soldier, only me.
She cried so when I left her
It like to broke my heart
And if I ever find her
We never more will part.

She's the sweetest rose of color
This soldier ever knew
Her eyes are bright as diamonds
They sparkle like the dew.
You may talk about your dearest May
And sing of Rosa Lee
But the Yellow Rose of Texas
Beats the belles of Tennessee.

Oh, my heart is feeling weary
And my head is hanging low
I'm goin' back to Georgy
To find my Uncle Joe.
You may talk about your Beauregard
And sing of Bobby Lee
But the Gallant Hood of Texas
He raised Hell in Tennessee.

My daughter, who started Kindergarten this year, actually pledges allegiance to the Texas flag right after they pledge allegiance to the American flag in school. I went to high school in Texas for two years, and I don't remember that.

Only in Texas. :)

I wonder how many times people have asked that after that movie came out?

BTW - No, I didn't ask that.:p

Before we get into (name the state), our (name the state), I would offer this song, written at the summit of Pike's Peak here in Colorado...

"Oh beautiful, for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountains majesty,
Above the fruited plains,
America, America ,
God shed His grace on thee,
And crowns thy good,
With brotherhood,
"From sea to shining sea.:

(I typed this from memory, so please overlook any minor tense, punctuation or other errors.) Edited to capitalize "His."

its a new requirement that started this academic year. It's actually state law that all school kids in Texas say it daily and that there has to be a Texas flag in every classroom in the state.

Maybe the legislators were concerned that people werent proud enough of Texas. ;)

I miss this place so bad when I am not here. I dont know how kitso does it.

PS: Am watching the Alamo special on The History Channel. Although I am a student of Texas Hsitoy, I will always be amaized at how, to this day, Texans and Mexicans view the events of 1836 so completely differently.

I was at a wedding a few weeks ago in San Fernando cathedral (downtown SA) and did not know that the cremated remains of Travis, Bowie and Crockett are entombed there. It was very sobering to be in their presence.

I cant wait till the movie (The Alamo) comes out in April. Its gonna rock.
