I'm a Beta at Nebraska, and the general feeling I get from sorority girls is that we are the nice, intelligent guys who are fun to hang out with. Girls don't have to worry about being taken advantage of, and we usually throw good parties. We aren't as well known socially as some of the other houses but we are known for being leaders on campus and are really involved in nearly every org but IFC, and we have won grades and Homecoming the past two years.
Our relationships are good with all the sororities but a couple - girls from certain houses never come to our parties and we don't particularly do anything to change the situation.
Also, one of the big ways of categorizing houses here is to say "you sleep with and XYZ, but marry a EFG". For most of the houses the girls I know say that you marry a Beta.
Among the fraternities we have a reputation for being push-overs in things like sports (not really true as we usually contend for the tier 2 intramural trophy...there are 4 teirs total). I think that most get tired of us winning the big events.

Betas were alright at Rutgers, until they burned down their house when they left too many heatlamps on in the attic. Heh, they were still fun to party with

Before the Betas were removed from IU's campus, they were awesome guys and just about all of the sororities wanted to pair with them! I met a guy last semester who was a Beta...he was incredibly good-looking and super nice. I think that seems to be the norm for the IU Betas! We can't wait for them to come back!

There are Beta chapters at both large state schools. The ones at Oklahoma State are fairly new... They went dormant due to some really serious hazing a few years back. Since then with tons of help from their alums they have come back strong.
The Oklahoma University Betas I don't know a whole lot about... My 2nd cousin is an alumnus of that chapter though... He's on your list of famous Betas.. Richard Taylor.

The OU Betas are a great chapter, huge house, huge on campus, awesome grades, best in sports, huge numbers - 60 man pledge classes, always winning awards...etc.
OSU, just re-orged after being shut down. They will be back strong in a few years though, their alumni are in the midst of raising some $10,000,000 for a new house.
Mizzou, probably our best chapter and arguably the best fraternity chapter in the nation (when talking about : grade rankings, intramural rankings, alumni donations, leadership on campus...etc.)
The longest Beta chapter in existence is Washington and Jefferson, the Gamma Chapter. This chapter has been in existence CONTINUOUSLY since 1842 I believe. This also makes this the longest fraternity/sorority chapter (of continuous existence) in the world.
Every fraternity/sorority will have their chapters that are"hardly existent" on campus, or known as the "dope smokers".....don't fret.
PS, what schools are you all at? It is great to hear about my Beta brothers, but it is hard to relate when you don't know what school your are talking about.

The Betas at my school are known as the athletes, always winning nearly all of the Greek intramural sports. They're definitely good looking, but sometimes seen as cocky...yet, the ones I know are some of the sweetest guys. They're definitely one of the top houses on campus.

The Betas at Washington and Lee University are pretty cool. They're one of the "Big Four" fraternities on campus. Of the Big Four, they're the only one that isn't predominantly southern (I think that may be a relatively new development--in the past 15 years or so). They are laid back and throw some kickass theme parties. Some of the best decorations I've seen, for their heaven and hell party and for the Jungle party. They were doing shockingly poorly in numbers for a few years but the pledge class my year (I'm a sophomore) was really big and this year's was too. A lot of lacrosse players... Overall I'd say attractive guys too, but not *too* hot. They're fun.

Bring back the Betas!
Up at my campus, Beta's folded in 2000 due to lack of numbers. When I was a collegian I always liked hanging out with them - they were a lot more down to earth than the DUs at the time.
Now, we only have DU and Pi Phi on campus. There was a last Beta last year trying to get support to re-est. but I think he graduated

The Betas at MTSU are really great guys! However, there are horrible rumors spread by the other fraternities here that have led to a nickname they can't get rid of. I met them before I ever heard anything about them, though.

Let the cat out....whats the nickname? I highly doubt anyone around here will run around saying "MTSU Betas are......na-na-nah-boo-boo".
