Just like someone else said earlier, I didn't have any loans from undergrad. I was lucky. But 25 year old me has decided to go back to school so I can actually do something with my life and now I'm on my own to do it. I have a 7800 dollar provincial loan and a 10k line of credit from the bank. so basically 20k for one year. i'll graduate with 40k in debt. and i was stressed about it. You all made me feel SO much better about it. Going to college and university here (in Canada) is WAY more affordable. There is no undergrad program that will cost you more than 5k a year. And when I went, it was only 3500 dollars.

I can't imagine how people are ever expected to pay back such unbelievable amounts of money

I know a lot of people who won't take out student loans for the simple fact that they will graduate with debt over their heads. My advice to anyone is to take the loans and stay in school because your opportunities with an education are endless.

I just got my balance $58,000---that is for undergrad and grad school--at a private university!!!
Some days I sit at work--look at the BS I am doing--and think "I went to college and grad school--all I got was BS at work and a butt load of student loans!!!"

I have about $1200 of loans from one semester at a private college.

Thanks to TOPS, the other 3.5 years of my education were paid for by the state. AND I got a $400 stipend for books each semester.

If I can keep up my full ride for Law School, I'll graduate with about $24,000 in loans from that, at most. Not to shabby, when I consider how poor my family and I would be had I stayed at Tulane.

Thank youl, Louisiana

Word?

oh, wait, I just remembered I don't like kids... alas...

Yeah, I have a cousin at Vanderbilt. Her parents are well off but not THAT well off. Shudder to think what it's like to graduate with that much debt over your head!!!

I am also considering going this route since I have a big tab already with 2 more years to go, plus I am realizing that I really have an interest in teaching for a few years before going to grad school.

Thumbs down LOANS BOOO!!!

I totally understand how everyone feels. This will be my fourth year in college, third year at an in state school, and I just keep thinking thank god I moved back home. I have been blessed that my parents/grandparents were for the most part helping me with my education, but since my younger sister is going away, I am taking out loans to finance my last year. It is soooo scary, but just another step on the way to growing up. I will probably have 15k or so this year and than grad school loans if I do go that route. Thanks Higher Education for making it so possible for everyone.
