"Well, it sure ain't Temple Beth Israel." - Dot Matrix, Spaceballs (voiced by Joan Rivers)
I saw yesterday that she was moved out of the ICU. I imagine she was placed in the palliative care unit. The PCU is where a patient is placed when the doctors have given up and they want to make the patient as comfortable as possible because the patient is going to die. Family members can visit 24/7 and even sleep in a recliner in the PCU (at least that was the setup at the hospital where my mother died).
RIP Joan Rivers

I remember watching her on the Flip Wilson show, just naturally funny and her sense of style was impeccable. such a strong woman. RIP Joan.

I have no words. I had hoped that she'd pull through, and this took me by surprise.
This may sound petty, but growing up as the only Melissa I knew (except the great-aunt for whom I'm named), I felt some weird kinship with Melissa Rivers. I'm feeling it today. May she know the peace that surpasses all understanding.

That's what I thought. Thanks for explaining. The media presented it like her condition was improving. It turns out, she was still on life support and they just took her off life support because they knew her condition would not improve.

This thread is refreshing. On Facebook, every single comment in my feed has been, "Oh no! I'll miss her on Fashion Police!" I know her humor and attitude weren't for everybody but I hate that it looks like that one thing was the only thing she was remembered for (though ctlearly it's not).

My hubby & I went to see her perform on the campus of Virginia Tech in March 2012. She was a complete breath of fresh air! Her plane was late due to weather conditions & although it was a stressful situation for Joan, she of course was hysterical regarding the whole ordeal & made it part of her phenomenal act. She had the most drive & heart & didn't let her fame go to her head & adored her family & friends. She went through it all in life & kept going... I think that's why we kind of expected her to pull through. My hubby said today, just before the news broke, I'm just waiting for her to pop up on one of the late night shows like Letterman & make light of this recent situation. May she RIP. They just don't make them like her anymore!!!

My Facebook is about her humor. I think it's mainly a generational thing.

She provided the narrator's voice in a Sesame Street series of animated shorts called "Letterman." She was a force of nature, undeniable.

Oh my gosh, thank you for reminding me of these! (It was Electric Company not SS though. ) That was probably my first exposure to her. When I did see her as a comedian when I was older, it was like reuniting with a friend.

Did those animated shorts air on SS also? I always thought it was The Electric Company? (Yes, 33girl is correct; it was The Electric Company)

She also directed an interesting film called "Rabbit Test".

Her triumphant return to The Tonight Show:

"How dry is it?"= I'm crying from laughing so hard at that joke.
She pushed the boundaries and opened so many doors for so many people. I hope her and Mr. Carson forgive each other in Heaven.
