That's how it was for me as well. Every fraternity on campus required it too.

The 4S's applied to me as well, and I was actually one of the co-founders of my chapter. The entire class just did it after some consultation with alumni in the area. Though, sometimes, we wear the pins with t-shirts.

There may be certain standards of dress that may be expected of you, and while it may feel weird to begin with, you'll eventually get used to it. If you wear clothes nice enough for the pin, you'll look sharper / more grown up.

I highly suggest talking to the people who offered you a bid about the clothing question. Just casually bring it up and see what they say.

Count me in on the 4S rule, too (though it was a while back for me). I know there's been a discussion about it before -- it's very common as I recall.

Agreed. There are some things at PacSun you can sneak through the SEC with but those aren't it.

I always thought it was near-universal except for the groups who revamped their 'pledging' (LXA, for example) since wearing the pin at all times can be considered 'hazing'

I think you may be right. It's actually in our General Regulations that "[t]he probationary member pin shall be worn at all reasonable times (i.e. probationary members shall not be required to wear the pin during sleep, at times when it could cause injury, etc.)."

During my 4 years in school, I don't think I ever saw a guy wearing a pledge pin around campus. And I can assure you that the majority of groups don't have a revamped pledge process. Maybe the campus culture has something to do with it?

At least with Psi U, we wear it on the innermost layer, so you usually wouldn't see it.

Not being snarky, but maybe you just didn't notice it. Sigma Chi pledges always had to wear their pledge pin. Although, pledge pins can only be worn with a collared shirt (so, Polo type is ok). No t-shirts and pledge pins together.
