I will bring in a bottle of water, but I've never felt the need to bring in a whole meal lol
However, one of those dinner and a movie places just opened by me, and I'd love to give it a try.

Like others have stated...I have brought in water and candy (shoved into my purse) but never a meal. I think I've shoved a muffin into my purse once too (I had just bought it when whomever I was with suggested a movie and I wasn't about to scarf it down that quickly).
Really the only time I get soda is at Harkins because we have the souviner cups that after the original purchase of 4-5 bucks, each refill for the rest of the year is 1 buck. We usually buy one or two of these cups in January.

I've definitely done candy, and I have brought my own soda before. It just seems wrong to be in a dark theater and assault other patrons' noses with the smell of a philly cheesesteak or Taco Bell or a value meal.

Most movie theaters smell anyways. Unless someone was being REALLY rude about it, I wouldn't mind. I think we brought in KFC once when I was a wee one b/c we were eating it already in the car, but not all of it, just what we hadn't finished.
The movie theaters down hear that you can do fine dining at is the Muvico in Palm Beach and Cinebistro in Miami (there is one in Tampa also). I've been twice to Cinebistro and the meal was $50 for two and the liquor was $25 + tip (PLUS TICKETS!!). So while I LOVE it, I would never be against someone bringing in their doggybag from Chili's or their sandwich from Chik-fi-A. Times are hard and movie theaters have horrible prices. Just throw it away when you're done. Beside, most movie theaters here offer things like popcorn shrip & fries or chicken tenders anyways, so the only difference is you're not paying $15 for greasy ill-prepared food, only $8 from the place down the block or whatever. Food smells like food.

I've brought candy in with me, but never a meal. But I rarely go to movie theaters - the last movie I saw in a theater was Star Trek (in IMAX - awesomeness ) and that was months ago.

So, I could see if there was a McDonalds or Burger King inside the building for the same kind of thing. I understand some of the movie beverages and snacks can be expensive to some, but bringing in actual meals inside when the theater clearly objects to it doesn't make sense. Plus, the sound of fast food bags can be pretty annoying. I dunno, it's just that I think it's low-class, and inconsiderate to people who want to watch the movie without having to hear loud fast food bags.

Herein lies the true difference between the CGs.
My take: i honestly prefer a meal over a snack with a movie. if i've eaten before the movie, then no need to bring a meal or snack. but if im hungry, why not. have you HEARD the way people chew popcorn, nachos and the like? its no louder or more disruptive than a cheeseburger wrapper or Tupperware container being opened.
i dont know if i'd actually go through the trouble of cooking a meal solely for a movie. but if i had leftover and could grab and go, sure. or if someone brought food with them and offered me some, i wouldn't object on grounds of morality and ethics.

I bring food in if the movie's over dinnertime & we don't have time to go out. I've brought fast food in before, but never fries- too smelly! And usually I go to great pains to open packaging very quietly, or pre-open. But even movie theater food makes noise when you open some of the packaging, so it's not entirely preventable.
I usually bring a bottle of water in, sometimes bulk candy from the grocery store or something. But I've also brought in (quiet) fruit, muffin, croissant, etc. Things you definitely won't find at the theater.
If they served better food and it wasn't so expensive, maybe they'd make more at their concession areas because more would buy- the Walmart principle. If you go too extreme, some will still buy but others will find a way around the system. Like large purses (me) and cargo pants (husband) As long as you're ensuring minimal annoyance in sound & smell at the theater, I'm good with it.

Pizza? Wow, that's quite the feat. I'd have to imagine that quite a few noses were sniffing around for the smell and less than pleased that they couldn't share in the pie but had to smell it! Although if it's not piping hot, it probably isn't as bad.

Wow. I wouldn't go that far, but WOW. That's like smuggling a mattress out of a hotel. They go into the hall of fame for that one.
