Good debate!
I'll be watching next week's debate between Biden and Palin. This should be INTERESTING...plus Gwen is moderating.

I am of two minds about this debate.
Either I will emerge from the debate dumber for having listened to Sarah Palin for an hour and a half,
Or great hilarity will ensue.

Expectations are so low for her, just showing up will guarantee her at least a tie! I did see an interview that she did with Charlie Rose last year where she actually appeared coherent, witty and funny.
I think the chick is currently on uppers or something. She is just too cheery and glassy-eyed yet she looks tired in still photos.

I believe it shall be the later - like watching a comedy special.
I subscribe to Tory Johnson's Women For Hire blog and she did a story about palin's interview with Katie Couric. Basically she said that if someone performed in a job interview the way Palin performed in her interview with Katie, we would have been tossed out on our arse - and DEFINTIELY not considered a candidate for VP!

Thursday debate controversy: Should Gwen moderate?
Ifill's book was no secret
Michael Calderone
Wed Oct 1, 10:44 AM ET
Michelle Malkin and World Net Daily have made a lot of noise today about the fact the Gwen Ifill, the moderator of Thursday's VP debate, has a new book coming on Inauguration day about Barack Obama and the politics of race -- it's now leading on the front of Drudge.
Fox's Greta Van Susteren reports that the McCain campaign didn't know about it.
"I am stunned….the campaign (actually both) should have been told before the campaign agreed to have her moderate. It simply is not fair -- in law, this would create a mistrial."

I love the last line in the article....

Legitimate questions, indeed. So why is this coming up less than 36 hours before Palin and Biden hit the stage?

Ok, this is a potential conflict (and I say that as longtime admirer of Ifill's reporting.) ...and a pretty obvious ready-made excuse for the Palin camp if they lose the debate.
If the McCain camp knew of Ifill's book, why wait until now to lodge a complaint? If they didn't know of it, which seems highly implausible, that's bad staff work.
If I'm the Obama campaign, I sit back and let this play out. If a new moderator is chosen at this late date, it potentially throws both candidates into chaos, and it then is a matter of who recovers first and best.

Did anyone else notice the complete lack of respect by John McCain? He completely DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT OBAMA! In addition, what is with the old white man condescending "He doesn't understand" ...b/c he is too stupid......
And Obama...stop saying, "I give McCain credit...."

My stepdad and I just talked about this a few minutes ago. And there were times when McStiff spoke and Obama was like "I got your number!"
And I think Obama wanted to show respect of McCain's service by giving him credit, but at the same time showing the American public that what he's been doing hasn't worked.
The pundits are saying that there is not a clear winner. But the undecided viewers who were polled for CNN and CBS both say that Obama won.

McCain absolutely HATES Obama with every fiber of his being! If he could stand on the capital steps at high noon and give Obama a piece of his feeble mind he would....

Overall, I thought Obama won the day. McCain could barely contain himself while Obama was as cool as a cucumber without being cold. McCain did put Obama on the offensive early on but Obama rose to the challenge and used McCain's own words and record against him. Obama demonstrated his thoughtfulness and planning whereas McCain continued to show that he shoots from the hip; frankly, I am not sure how being a maverick can be a good thing! McCain did close slightly stronger, though, however, I believe that Obama won the day overall.
Its funny that all of the polls that I have seen of VOTERS show that Obama has won but the pundits are split!

/\/\/\ I watched the debates on ABC and that was the FIRST thing Charlie G. and George S. said when the debate was over! They said that unlike McCain who just stared at the moderator, Obama was very engaging, both with McCain and to the audience/camera.

The VP debate is scheduled for this Thursday at 9 pm. I think it will be quick and painless for Sen. Biden, but long and extremely painful to Gov. Palin. This will either make or break McCain's chances.

i wouldn't be surprised if the mccan't team tried to delay the VP debate due to the ongoing financial crisis. last i saw, the Dow was down 738 pts. that to me says team mccan't will try for another "campaign suspension"

There are several points I have here:
1. I had NO CLUE throughout the ENTIRE debate what in the hell McCain was talking about! I can't tell you ONE single time that he actually answered the question presented. He was constantly talking about random things, rambling, interrupting, running over time, etc., that I lost track and focus.
2. I was extremely disappointed with the moderation of the debate. While I clearly think that Sen. Obama won, a lot of points went unmade because he was attempting to be respectful of Sen. McCain and the format of the debate. Anyone that THINKS McCain won is going solely off the strength that he basically took over the debate and talked what HE wanted to talk about, with no regard for the questions or regulations of debating.
I think that the moderator should be someone who can actually moderate and keep things on track, specifically pointing out that McCain has gone over time and/or has NOT answered the question. Lord, I wish that Tim Russert were still here with us. We need someone like him to get it regulate!
3. Sarah Palin AIN'T READY for the drama that is Joe Biden! She is going to get chopped up on site! I can't, for the life of me, understand how and why people are fooled by her! I can see right through her LACK of education, experience, wit, talents, personality, charisma.... OK, I'll just stop there! LOL! The chick is just lacking ALL OVER!
Thursday can't get here fast enough!

Don't you know why? She's a BABE! We all know that 'good-looking' people get the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, she has NO substance.
I think that is also one of the reasons why 'some' people have a problem with Obama. They assume that just because he is 'good-looking' that he is an empty suit.
Yes, it IS a double standard. HE is a BLACK MAN and SHE is a WHITE WOMAN. Two totally different standards....

Gwen has made it no secret that this book is coming out. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the book is not coming out until next year. Gwen has also done interviews with the Obamas for Essence.
Whether or not Gwen's the moderator, Palin is still going to look dumb as a doorknob.
