My life is getting really crazy. I am trying to finish up my dissertation, as I plan to try to defend it on Dec. 2nd. Hopefully I will have my PhD in Space and Planetary Sciences by the end of that day.

You'll do fine!!! Remember, your the EXPERT in your project

Just go in there and exude confidence when you defend!!! I was nervous, but I got my hair and nails done with a excellent looking suit before I defended...

And as far as writing, hopefully your program will give you leeway... Make sure you dot your "i's" and cross your "t's" to the format of your university.

And Space and Planetary sciences... You go girl!!! Not too many women in that field of science... Does that mean you go to Mauna Kea?

I wish I was at Mauna Kea, but I actually don't do any observational work. Everything I do is in a lab or looking at remote imagery from other planets.

As for my defense and dissertation, I am really just going to be happy when it is all done, but to make things interesting I am actually going to be 24 and a half weeks pregnant when I defend.

When I first posted in this thread I was just looking at programs, now I'm in my 2nd year. I was looking back on this thread and can't believe that the time has gone by so quickly. I also think it's interesting that I ended up in a Counseling program when I initially was looking to get an MA in English. I think I made a good choice though, since I love talking to people and helping others, so why not get paid for it?

To nauadpi: I'm soo jealous!

I wish my viva (our equivalent of the defense) was that soon! I just submitted my doctoral thesis on Friday (in its 400-page glory) and have yet to hear when I will be viva'd. Is it standard in your programme to have such a quick turnaround between submitting and defending? I may have to wait anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months (the maximum time the examiners can take to read the thesis). Hopefully it's sooner rather than later...

Best of luck!!

OUrs we have to give it to them 3 weeks ahead of defending. Mine will end up being a bit closer to 2.5 weeks before defending, but not too bad. Part of my dissertation have already been published in peer review journals, so that helps make the process so quick. Also my dissertation will be more on the 250 page length. This helps to cut down the time they need to read it.

I know how you feel! I finished my MA thesis at the end of September and I should be finding out how I did by the end of November and my graduation is 10 December! That is one thing that drives me insane about Ireland, the forever waiting time between exams/submission and results! Congrats on finishing up the thesis!

Well I officially got my dissertation into my committee on Friday, and today my information showed up on the calendar of upcoming PhD dissertation defenses... It really is going to happen, 2 weeks from today.

I'm excited!!! I just got my acceptance letter into a graduate certificate program through East Carolina University!

Its for Community College Instruction and I hope to use this as a stepping stone into a masters in Adult/Higher Education. To me its weird to say I'm a grad student now lol!

Just started a new semester. One of my classes has a GROUP term paper? Um, what??

I'm not loving the idea of writing a paper with 4 other students.

Try doing one with 10. I hated that class with a passion.

We were supposed to be published, too, if Sally Whinesalot (yes, this was a guy) hadn't effed things up.

ETA: I see that you posted that at the beginning of the semester. How did it go?

Wow, holy old thread batman! I just read my post about being in my 3rd week of school. I graduated in December with Merit, just barely missing Distinction. Loved the programme and my lecturers, and even though my thesis damned near killed me...wouldn't trade it for the world. Anyone thinking of going abroad for their MA/PhD, do it! Absolutely do it!
