re grad sxhool

Re: student affairs: I've done a post grad internship in a campus activities office and helped the Greek life advisor and Panhellenic, and learned a great deal about organizing for recruitment. I also assisted the Homecoming and orientation committees by going to planning meetings and helped run events. I was very involved with campus actiivity planning when I was an undergraduate.

I know there's a proper way to respond, but I am learning with this laptop, and need to get this new unruly machine mastered by fall.

I have a journalism background and have run crisis communications workshops.

I want to look into leadership development, substance abuse programs, volunteer management, Greek life, and yes, take a computer class to update my skills.

I got into AUBURN!!!

I got into my first choice grad school! Yay! I start my program in about 4 weeks. I'm getting my master's in psychology - applied behavior analysis. My bachelor's is in Elementary Education. One of the Program assistants told me I'm their first education major ever in the history of the program.

Well, yesterday I received an announcement with some pretty surprising news...

I've been selected for a grad assistantship with full tuition and a monthly stipend!

No finger foods. One potential student brought her two kids with her, who could not be quiet during the program. Guess she got tired of the angry looks b/c she left about 15 minutes later. I know how it is when you can't find babysitting, but did you really expect them to sit QUIETLY for over an hour? With only one book to read?

The program sounds competitive, but very good. Big focus on training counselors in advocacy and multicultural issues, which was different. Counseling is not just white, euro men talking to white euro women, to paraphrase. So we shall see. The push to finish my packet starts next week.

I'm in my 3rd week of my masters program and I love it.

It's interesting how different grad is from undergrad:

*all my classes are one a day a week for 2 hours.
*There's less homework and busy work.
*There are fewer papers/projects, but the ones you DO have require much more work and are worth more in your grade.
*Class time is mostly devoted to discussion. There is little to no lecturing.

I'm in week 4 and ditto everything except my classes are 3 hours long *ick*. It's so hard to focus for that long. I'm usually ready for a nap within the first hour with the lecture-hardy teachers. But it's been pretty awesome overall.

I'm still excited. I had my appointment with my academic advisor regarding advance standing and I was approved. I paid the fees, went over my schedule and program and barring any unforeseen complications and/or disasters, I will be graduating in May 2008 with a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential AND a Masters in Education from the University of La Verne. YAY!

1.5 years of working my butt off will have paid off.

Yay you! I'm still on track for 2009 myself, but I'm not sure whether I'll be done in the spring or not.

I'm debating at least taking the GMAT for business school. I have a bachelor's in comm, master's in integrated marketing, but am now working in contracting.

I'm thinking it might be good to go for the MBA for this job field. I'm going to be with the govt for a while.
