As far as treatment of legacies, Delta Zeta's rules are right up there in the public section of our website so it's not MS.

Here are a few of the most interesting points:

A Delta Zeta legacy shall be defined as a sister/step-sister, daughter/step-daughter, granddaughter/step-granddaughter or great granddaughter/step-great granddaughter.

A legacy receiving an invitation to the preference event shall be placed on the chapter’s first bid list.

A legacy shall be released from Delta Zeta formal membership recruitment only with justification and only with the prior approval of the College Chapter Director (CCD) and the Regional Collegiate Director (RCD) before being deleted from the invitation list. The National Recruitment Chairman shall be informed of the decision no later than 24 hours after it has been made.

So, we take our legacies pretty seriously. Although I've always wondered what would constitute "justification".

That last one must be a nightmare in SEC schools with potentially scores of legacies.

Interesting how things work out....

Nobody in our family was Greek (or so we thought) and our daughter really wanted to join a sorority. A week before she headed to UF (and yes she got recommendations to most of the sororities), we "discovered" her paternal grandmother was a Delta Zeta. Grandma says "I should look for my pin"...My daughter looks at me like "really we kinda missed that boat". Understand there was a lot of family stuff going on so it just hadn't come up.
She has what I would say was a wonderful recruitment....and ends up in Delta Zeta without the legacy awareness so now her and her grandma joke about being sisters!

What a wonderful story!!

My cousin and I are ADPi's but my husband's family has DG's, ZTA's, and DDD's so it would be great if my daughter ended up in one of those I have KD, XO, DZ, APhi and Theta friends so that would be special if she ends up there. I would also be thrilled if my daughter was a Phi Mu so we'd both be Macon Magnolias (and share lions). And with SK, we could share violets!

I think that covers most of the chapters in Texas...I'm prepping myself to be happy regardless of where she ends up

^^^If you'd read the thread in its entirety, you'd see that that's really not the case at all.

Chapters see the value in extending them bids, but there are schools at which if EVERY single legacy woman were extended a bid, the class would be nothing but legacies, leaving no room for anyone else. There's also the issue of having so many and having to decide which ones get invited back.

I also think that there is a generational disconnect regarding those coming from a time when every single legacy got a bid because there were no quotas and such and those younger members for whom there are quota, RFM, etc.

It is a hot-button topic at many schools. I understand that you are probably a mom with a daughter who was released or something, and I am sorry. However, the enemy they are not. That is rather dramatic.

My double legacy daughter was cut from her legacy house last fall. Other than being cut by her legacy house, she had a perfect recruitment (and is very happy where she is now).

Because my own chapter was from out of state and not the school where dd was a PNM, if she had left off her affiliation on the rush form and if I had asked her recs to leave off our relationship, I almost feel that she would have been pledged by my sisterhood. It is when you come to this realization that you start thinking that the legacies are seen as the "enemy". Sorry for the drama.

If she's happy and had a perfect recruitment, why do you care???? Go to the IU thread and read about the mess that is rush there that was made messier this year by weather and read about how many disappointed women there are.

It may also have been that she would have rather walked across hot coals than spend another minute let alone 4 years with the chapter of your group at her school, and she didn't want to convey this to you. If a rushee came up to me and said "I don't think this is the chapter for me but my mom is an alumnae and is set on it" you can bet that I'd bring that up during voting and you can bet everyone would probably try to help her out by cutting her.
