Thanks. The thought of going through beaucoup years of threads and posts is a little much right now, LOLOL! But, okay.

Really? That's cool. I guess I'm just used to being the "odd" one. I always have been.

My point is that there are many NPHC members who would claim the same things you stated about yourself. I know my friends and family never thought I would be "greek" because I'm so independent and "free" thinking, but I realize now that their assumptions were based on stereotypes. I'm one of those people who wants to be her own boss in everything but one of the most valuable things I've learned as a member of my sorority, is that learning how to follow is just as important as learning how to lead, especially in organizations. Sigma Gamma Rho taught me that following could be powerful if it was necessary and if there was someone better qualified to lead. The very thing that I had always associated with weakness, proved to be one of the most empowering things I now implement in various areas of my life while still being the leader that I am naturally. This is something that I know I would not have learned if I started my own organization. I was so independent (and I have been since I was very young) that I didn't think that there was any way for me to do things without being the leader in everything. It's great that you wanted to start your own organization and if that's what you always had a mind to do, than good luck to you, but talk about how great your organization is or will be, as opposed to how you do not fit into ours because of reasons you think are valid.

You have given me something to think about. Thanks for taking the time to write that.

You are targeted because you made yourself a target. When people do that, they have to understand that comments will come at them however people send them.

How did I make myself a target? I'm not being sarcastic, I really want to know, because evidently I'm missing something. I am really at a loss as to what I did to provoke such strong reactions from people. I thought maybe as a newbie, I wasn't staying in my place, or something. But, maybe it's really not that at all.
I'm listening.

I'm not blaming you completely but it's wierd to wonder why people are "looking at you" when you "raised your hand."
Your first few posts on this board were in threads in which you identified yourself as a founder for a new sorority. That breeds curiosity and targets you for both encouragement and questions.

I think that NPHC members are just tired of being attacked (not that you are attacking us) and we have become a little sensitive and insensitive. Everyone and their momma thinks they have us all figured out...like we are all cut from the same cloth. We're just tired of the stereotypes and tired of people presenting themselves as the anecdote to NPHC greekdom. If you have a new organization, then talk about why you're great...not about why we're so wrong or don't "fit" you because there are plenty of NPHC members that will tell you that people act so surprised when they tell them that they're in XYZ sorority or fraternity.
When I talk about why I joined Sigma Gamma Rho, I just talk about Sigma Gamma Rho. I don't talk about why I didn't pursue DST, ZPhiB, or AKA. No one really wants to hear why you didn't join their organization...it puts people off and makes them think that you (like so many others) are ruled by stereotypes. And this may not be what you mean, but new orgs on greekchat have a history of presenting themselves as the alternative to us...and it's getting old and tired.

Okay, I understand what you're saying. But, I didn't come on here and do any of that, so that can't be why I was targeted.

Yes, I "raised my hand", and I did expect curiosity and questions, and maybe even to be challenged. I even expected some hostility. But I didn't expect (and didn't deserve) the level of hostility that was shown to me, whose roots - it has been acknowledged - lie in events that happened before I came to GC. It was like I walked into a room, said "hi", and was immediately ganged.

That is so not true, although I understand it is your perception. If you are that sensitive then that is a whole 'nother conversation. And at some point you will need to acknowledge your part in all of this. Yes, posts happened before and your posts were eerily similar. Otherwise the reactions would not have occured. And still I repeat, you even went after folx who were trying to be encouraging.

You and your fellow GC'ers are all perfect angels, blameless and without spot. I, the new girl, am the spawn of satan and fully to blame for every negative encounter I've had on GC. It is all my fault that people I didn't know existed came on GC, not long before me, and raised hell. I deserved to be raked over the coals and disrespected because of what these phantoms did before I got here. I am also hypersensitive and prone to blacking out and losing my memory. Some kind of way, my cognitive abilities have been lost, also. I am FUBAR.
That was a joke.
Anyhoo, Ladygreek, you and I are going to have to agree to disagree on this one and keep it moving. Have a great evening.

Roz,
I don't have a dog in this fight, but when I re-read your initial posts in this thread, I thought that they were provocative and condescending. Your responses to ladygreek were out of line, especially since she was quite civil in her responses to you. Your comment concerning "the affiliate thing" really hit me the wrong way. I can only imaging how it sounded to the members of that particular sorority. If you don't think that you share the responsibility for some of the negativity you've encountered, then you are definitely missing something.

Yanno, you really have a lot to learn about the real world and taking responsibility for your actions (eventhough I assume you are 24 or over, you have a long ways to go still in adulthood.) I never said everyone else was blameless, and that was pointed out by Chaos. But I did ask you to own up to your part in all of this and all you could do was come back with sarcasm.
Young lady, I do wish you the best, and hope that you have at least learned something from this experience. You have a good evening, too.
