Oh, c'mon, lady. If you try some chitlins with a little hotsauce on them, you'll be hooked. Your blood pressure and arteries might have a slight reaction, but you'll love the taste.

Just the thought is giving me a heart attack! Here's an idea - if you and I are ever at the same pig roast, you can have the weird stuff while I eat the pork and ham. Deal?

Reading this thread is helping me stay on my diet because I get totally nauseous at the idea of eating some of the stuff y'all talk about. Thanks

Eh...been there and it's essentially the same type of chain stuff to me. I'll admit that I've been spoiled when it comes to Italian food, in that I grew up in a big Italian family (my Naunie is an excellent cook), I had family that owned an Italian deli growing up, and I got to live in Boston (where the Italian section is pretty solid). So I'm really picky when it comes to the chain places.
One thing this thread has shown me - I should be very happy that my wife and friends are so (comparatively) open-minded about food.

I am a pretty adventurous/open to anything/ will try it at least once (and then again a few years down the line) type of girl, so my list is pretty short. I love haggis, had all sorts of miscellaneous food while traveling in Spain, and will generally assume that it won't kill me to try to eat it.
-Pickled fish (if we're being specific, pickled herring). It's a tradition on my dad's side of the family to wave pickled herring above your head at midnight on New Years Eve going "money money money!" and then eat it. Tried that as a kid, was traumatized. Tried it as an adult...traumatized again. No thanks.
-Cottage cheese with pineapple on it. Ok, I love cottage cheese. I love pineapple. But I don't want them together because of the weird congealing of the milk+pineapple juice on the plate. I'm even ok with them on the same plate, as long as the juice isn't mixing. My husband does not understand.
-Seafood in general. I'll eat it at Lent/on fast days or if I'm in a seafood specific place (crabcakes in MD for example). But I'll never go out of my way to get it, and I'll never cook it. Also: expensive.
I feel so bad for all the Thai/Indian food non-enjoyers. I love Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Mexican...love it all. If you make Indian food at home, it is a lot easier to control the spice of it so you can get the flavors and not just heat.

I can't eat cottage cheese anymore. It reminds me of that white stuff that some people have on the corners of their mouths. Then when they talk it moves up and down, but it never breaks apart. So gross.

I loooooooove oxtails. I don't eat them often.
I looooove grits. I eat them whenever I'm in a cream of wheat/grits/oatmeal mood. They are great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The British are inclined to agree with you...oxtail soup is a big thing. Oxtail is a delicious, cheap, good for you cut of meat. It's a shame most of it is wasted in the US!
