They tried it, they love it. You tried it, you don't.
I didn't know how to title this because there's only so much you can get in a "title" line of a thread. Have you ever eaten something that someone said was absolutely delicious, but when you tried it, it was either gross or it wasn't what you expected? What are some foods that you've tried that you thought were going to taste like what someone "over exaggerated" to be SO good, and it wasn't all that great?
I'm asking because on Thursday while I was in line at the grocery store, a lady in front of me was buying a bag of "Popcorn Indiana" and I asked her how it tasted. She said it tasted just like the movie theater popcorn, much better than microwave popcorn. She just kept going on and on at how good and buttery this popcorn was. So I got out of line to get a bag for myself. On the bag it says "Popcorn Indiana Original Movie Theater Popcorn". It also has a picture of a tradtional old movie theater on it, which really gave me the impression that it would taste just like she said it would. I just now tried it. It doesn't taste anything like movie theater popcorn. It's not like it's gross or anything, it's just that it has no flavor to it whatsoever. I can't even taste any butter on it, and it's slightly salty. It's probably going to eventually go bad, because I know I'm not going to eat it. |
Beer.
I've tried and tried. Just don't like it. I'll stick to Sky and Cranberry. |

Many of the foods that are trendy right now.. Thai, Indian, Sushi.. I just don't like any of them. And, my digestive system can't handle Thai or Indian either. Coffee also. I love the smell, I hate the taste.
I went to a beer tasting last weekend, trying to find a beer I really liked. Some of them were better than others.. I liked a few, but I still prefer many other drinks to beer, like Bailey's, wine, cranberry and vodka, strawberry margaritas/daiquiris |
Most alcohol. I really dislike the taste of hard liquor, which probably isn't a bad thing. I've tried a lot, so yes I probably have tried your favorite, but I seriously gag when I take a shot or have a mixed drink. My mixed drinks have to be a splash of alcohol and 99% everything else.
Cottage cheese and cheesecake for me as well. |
I'll do the reverse. I tried chitlins. I love them, most folks don't. The crazy thing is most folks never even tried them and won't eat them because they know what they are. That's too bad. Chitlins, mmmm good.:D

I am with KSUViolet about the beer and AGDee about the coffee...I've tried soooo many times to be a beer and a coffee drinker (maybe I should try them together...hmmmm) but just don't get it! And I really have tried every type of beer out there...I just don't like that bitter flavor. Now wine and hard liquor...yum!

Guinness Stout. English room-temperature lagers. Even the darker Sam Adams. I like my beer cold and light-colored, despite how many times people tell me the aforementioned items have more "taste".
I think I like comfort food because caviar and escargot don't do anything for me. Soups that are supposed to be cold. |

Sushi.
Yes, I have been to all of the million places around here that you say have great sushi. I still just don't like it. |

Other things people seem to love that I hate:
Hot dogs. Everyone wants them at sporting events. They're gross. Eggs, omelets, etc. White Castle. |
For me its beer and coffee. I agree with the others above, about how coffee smells great, but I hate the taste. I also don't like how beer is fermented wheat, and that's just gross to me, but yes I have tried it and I can't stand it. I'm much more in to mixed drinks...and the less alcohol I can taste the better!
I also don't really like seafood, although I've gotten better with crab meat. |
