I love that show as well...I only was able to catch the end though.
I agree with you that Santos will win - if you paid attention to the part where they showed next week's episode, you could see pretty clearly that it was Jimmy Smits. Plus, I don't think he would have just signed on for a few episodes.
I read an interview with the series creators a month or so ago, and they didn't rule out the possibility of a Republican president and going on with that scenario. I think Alda is good in the show, but I think they would have to change too much for him to be the new star.
It will be interesting to see what happens next week.
