11 Men Charged With Hazing At Texas Lutheran University

9 Students, 2 Alumni Face Criminal Charges

March 22, 2005

SEGUIN, Texas -- Nearly a dozen men have been charged in connection with what's being called the largest hazing roundup in recent memory at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.

The suspects include nine students and two alumni, all members of Kappa Pi Alpha, a fraternity that was banned from the university last year following an incident that left two students with broken bones. The suspects were charged with three counts of hazing, humiliation and exposure to the elements.

If found guilty in a court of law, the suspects face 120 days in jail plus a $2,000 fine per count.

Assistant Guadalupe County Attorney Larry Bloomquist told KSAT 12 News the arrests came after a student was poisoned by alcohol at a party.

Bloomquist also said as many as eight students were injured during the hazing.

"We're not going to wait for a tragedy to occur before we take action," he said.

Question

How many Natoinals at This School?

Guess it wont make any difference if they are using Greek Letters.

And come to think of it, a good Church Affiliated School!

Did TLU never allow national orgs to colonize or affiliate locals; or did the local orgs never want national affiliation? This is very interesting to me b/c this is a University I considered way back when....

Fraternities - Omega Tau, Kappa Pi Alpha, Zeta Chi, Sigma Phi Theta (Nonactive)

Sororities - Beta Alpha Sigma, Delta Alpha Delta, Kappa Pi Gamma, Xi Tau

They also have Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity

Guadalupe County authorities busted 11 members of an underground fraternity at Texas Lutheran University this week in what's being called the largest hazing roundup at the school in recent memory.

The arrests are a result of an investigation launched last month after a minor attending a Kappa Pi Alpha party ended up being treated for alcohol poisoning, according to the Guadalupe County Attorney's office.

Nine university students and two alumni were arrested on warrants charging them with multiple counts of hazing.
