11 Men Charged With Hazing At Texas Lutheran University
9 Students, 2 Alumni Face Criminal Charges March 22, 2005 SEGUIN, Texas -- Nearly a dozen men have been charged in connection with what's being called the largest hazing roundup in recent memory at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. The suspects include nine students and two alumni, all members of Kappa Pi Alpha, a fraternity that was banned from the university last year following an incident that left two students with broken bones. The suspects were charged with three counts of hazing, humiliation and exposure to the elements. If found guilty in a court of law, the suspects face 120 days in jail plus a $2,000 fine per count. Assistant Guadalupe County Attorney Larry Bloomquist told KSAT 12 News the arrests came after a student was poisoned by alcohol at a party. Bloomquist also said as many as eight students were injured during the hazing. "We're not going to wait for a tragedy to occur before we take action," he said. |
