My opinion:
This whole trainwreck is funny because it's happening with celebrities when you usually hear about it happening with a bunch of toothless hillbillies who are marrying their cousins. Britney sucks. Her career is in the crapper. In 10 years, she will show up on "True Hollywood Story" talking about her problems with narcotics and how she's trying to restart her 'singing' career. Her big career flop won't be attributed to her crappy albums, her ditziness, her fans growing older or anything like that. It is attributed to the fact that she is a publicity whore gone bad and has made a mockery of herself. She has only herself to blame.
