I heard about you hoodlums yesterday on Oprah. It's time to let that gang-isht go! There was a children's story (an excerpt of which came from an old Houghton-Mifflin reading textbook called "Images") that was called "The Way They Were" (I think). The premise was VERY similar to what you were alluding to: "If you think it's cool to have school without teachers and textbooks, think again." I cannot remember the author's name, but when I heard you mention locked classrooms with a TV monitor, this story came to mind.
