I got the reverse backhanded compliment as well! This guy I knew told me that I was one of the prettiest girls he knew but I would look better if I went running more to tone up my thighs. Ummmm.......thanks? Now I have a thigh complex! haha I guess it's good to know that he was being honest!

In high school I had several people give me the same "compliment":
"If you were anorexic, you'd look like Kate Moss"

my old roommate told me I was "cute for a chubby girl"......yeah, that inspired a diet. I am no longer chubby, thanks jacka$$. He also told me one day, when I was wearing a babydoll top and pajama pants, that "You actually look cute." WTF? Like he was surprised I could look cute? Yes, he gave me a huge complex.

Okay, so after work today I went grocery shopping and the cashier asked me what high school I go to...Umm...I graduated from high school almost 8 years ago. Now I TEACH school! Nevermind the platinum and diamond wedding set. That isn't exactly teenager jewelry I was nice to her though. I told her that I am a teacher and asked her where she goes (which is a very nice private school...most of those kids don't know what a high school job is!) and then wished her luck.
So in a way, I guess that was a compliment. But when you are in your twenties, you don't want to look younger. Let's save it up for some years down the road, okay!

You are so nice. I can't believe that you are from New York City.
I'm not sure what that means.

Once a guy told me that I'll make the best MILF one day.
Ummmm, ok seeing as how I'm 23 and who knows how long it'll be before I have kids or what I'll look like then...Um, thanks, I guess--???

Today this male nurse told me I looked beautiful when I cried.
Um thanks. Almost as nice as the guy that told me he wished I had cancer.

Several years ago...
"Aye Mijito (spanish for my little one), you look good! You look like you've put on weight!"
-Connie, manager at my bank.
Me: "How polite of you to comment publically!"

From my second husband: You have child bearing hips
From a whacko college roommate: You don't seem fat because you don't dress fat (I guess I didn't wear tent dresses? I was only about 15 pounds overweight when she said that too!)
From current co-workers: "You have the shiniest hair.. you should be on a shampoo commercial!" (Yeah, except for that grey that's creeping in)
From numerous people my whole life: "You have the funniest laugh, it makes me laugh just to hear you laugh" (Is that a compliment? I haven't decided yet! I was voted Funniest Laugh and Biggest Smile in High School)
In college: The TKEs all called me Adrienne, for Adrienne Barbeau, which I thought was a horrendous insult, but I think, in retrospect, they were being complimentary... I also found it insulting to have men whistle and cat call from the dorm windows as I walked by, but realized later that I was supposed to be flattered?

20-year-old collegian at Chi Omega regional meeting:
"You're so much fun -- I wish you were my mom!"
(I think I was 32 at the time.)

Another pick-up line 'compliment':
"Hey baby, you look good even getting into that"
(Referring to the old beat up car I used to have. Didn't work.)

Are you really a scientist? Because you're too pretty to be smart and a envrionmental scientist, cause all smart girls are ugly.
This was from a couple of 5th grade girls. I didn't know if I should laugh, be insulted, or cry because there is still a sterotype that smart girls are ugly.
