Heard a most interesting discussion on NPR yesterday with a demographer/pollster who points out that America is really mostly purple, and that the closeness of the election proves it.

I, for one, would certainly like to think that most Americans are more moderate than the lunatic fringe from both sides that we had to deal with for the past several months.

I can't remember all of his examples, but on Abortion Rights, he claims that about 10% of Americans are absolutely Pro-Life, about 30% are hard core Pro-Choice and the other 60% are somewhere in the middle -- ie in favor of choice in circumstances such as rape, disease, etc.

In any event, he feels that the "split" in the country isn't nearly as dramatic as all of the pre and post election hoopla would lead us to believe.
